right guys need some advice, i bought a new clutch and flywheel for my corolla t-sport and was after some quotes for a clutch change on our ts. any body had theres changed, i went for exedy clutch and fidanza flywheel.

roughly how much should a mechanic be charging for labour? i was stupidly quoted 600 quid from a mechanic who seemed happy to take the job on told me it would be a good price and told me 600. i left at first instance. so really need advice on how much i should be paying and roughly how many hours labour is it to fit a clutch on a t-sport.

OK, so after the 9.5hour quote of the first place which he reckoned would come to almost £600, I went to a place that my parent's use and their quote is half the price. That is to replace the clutch, the flywheel, the clutch master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder. So it looks like I'll have to go with these guys.

I ended up paying £315 to have all of the work mentioned above done, plus they also replaced the oil in the gearbox as well.

i got 300 for one quote thinking i should maybe take that up.

ya i bought the clutch for £82 and paid £120 fitting, so was very happy.

btw the garage is Toyotech in Chadderton, Manchester free plug he deserves it. One motormount Insert wouldnt fit (pre/facelift have different rear engine mounts), so i actually came back on a different day after buying the facelift rear mount, and then he proceeded to fit that for no additional cost...and anyone who knows how difficult it would be to replace the rear mount itself knows that is a great service that he didnt charge for like an additional 2 hours labour to sort it...that was way before Xmas, and prices may be slightly more now liek for like but...

You really want to post in the Auris forum, not sure how much its engine bay differs for the Corolla ?

You first want to ask around for prices from Mr T, then privates garages who specialise in clutches and gearboxes.

Typical prices from the latter were around £300 for my Corolla petrol.

Can it be done with axle stands, will you need a lot more than that !!

My post here might give you a better idea, though as said, do not know if your Auris Diesel will allow the gearbox to come out as easily / nedding to drop the exaust  or subframe.

It will still cost you at least half what a garage will charge, and its a lot of hard work !

Buying cheap clutches off eBay can be false economy, its known that some bearing brand names are fakes as well.

Certainly not something to attempt as a first car repair and without the right tools.
