Fitting Sub On Aygo 58...splice?

Recommended Posts

does anyone know/ or know how to find out which wires to splice when fitting a sub and 6X9's to the original head unit? im trying to find out which wires connect to the Speakers cos i have two sets of front Speakers and 1 set of tweeters as standard............pls help! lol x

If you look at the Speaker-plug behind the radio, the outer sets of wires are for the rear Speakers.

One thing to kee in mind is that in the current situation the big Speakers in the doors are connected

to the rear channels of the radio (just try the fader ad you'll hear), if you just splice in an extra set

of Speakers, chances are you'll eventually burn out the internal amplifier for the radio...

So either disconnect the door speakers, or install an external amplifier to drive the 6x9's (and the sub)...

how do you take the head unit out in the first place?

is there a speacial toll to be used after taking the screw out or something?

Toyota advertise using a special tool in their AIM, but I've done it plenty times with just my fingers:

start prying at the edge where the white illuminated plastic ends, then work upwards.

There are 6 spots where it's clicked, the last bit is a hook

in the center top, just under the top ventilation outlet...

Here's a pic with the panel removed, hope that helps:

Did you connect the 6x9's to the amp or to the door-speakers?

The doorspeakers are 6 Ohm, you new ones are probably 4 Ohm.

Current allways takes the past of least resistance,

so most of it flows through the 6x9's...

And you're overloading the radio too, as it's only rated at 4 Ohm per

channel and hooking up 6 Ohm AND 4 Ohm in parrallel is now putting

only 2,4 Ohm on a channel which can cause the internal amp to fry...

Your amp cutting out is probably due to the gain-level being too far up.

Start with gain all the way down, put the volume up to about 80% of

maximum, then turn up gain untill it starts clipping and turn back a tad...

k so turned the gain down to minimum...but it seems as tho the problem is when i turn the engine on...wen the ignition only is on its fine but as soon as the engine turns on after about 3 secs the sub trips out! very strange. my dad is fitting it 4 me and hes an electrician and he cant work out y either!! oh i took out the 6X9's (thk they were only connected to the amp as this was as simple as just unplugging them) mthought it was them that was overloading it but obviously not.........

Did you or your dad check voltages at the amp?

I'm guessing you put in a thick wire to feed the amp, did you remember to

also put an extra ground-lead between the chassis and the Battery terminal?

yup yup yup did all that hundreds of times with the checking voltage thing :) found a problem, the big blue wire with 2seperate inserts on the end or the input socket on the amp is broken cos the one labelled black works fine, but the red makes it cut out!! :P im thinking its the amp cos now it works with only one of those cables in (the black) but wen i turn it above a certain (but reasonable) volume it will cut out again. i have now found a good volume with a good bass thank god, but was wondering if u may agree that it cud possibly be the amp or the input cable??

Have you tried swapping the input-leads?

Putting the red one on the black plug and vice-versa...
