Hi,

Just noticed recently that the climate control doesn't really work..

Did the self check as described in autodata and 3 codes came up:

21,24 - sunlight temp. sensor

23 - refrigerant pressure sensor

Does anyone know if they are easy to check/replace?

The fault code 23 - refrigerant pressure sensor, suggests to me that the air con has possibly leaked some or all of its gas.

If this is so, the pressure sensor wont allow the aircon to run as the pressure is too low.

Is it necessary to check the level at a garage or I can do it myself?

Can the sunlight sensor be removed without taking the dash apart? If I can remove it I can test it myself /isn't it just a simple photodiode ?/

hello JOHN

may be i am mistaken (the folks will correct) but i suggest the only problem occured with contacts (for pressuure sensor -- may be dirty) and cleanness of prime temp sensor that is locaded in front of heat exchangers. The above might be correct subject to the climate was working fine before.

Cheers/Igor

Is the sunlight sensor the little dome shaped thing near the windscreen airvent. I always wanted to know what that was!

What Igor says is a distinct possibility. If it's the same as mine, the pressure sensor is located to the right of the radiator (looking from the front) and is screwed into a metal block which is part of the refrigerant pipe. It has a small sight glass next to it. DO NOT attempt to unscrew the switch. You can check the plug connection to it, you can also check the switch for continuity with an ohms meter while the plug is disconnected. If there is no continuity, the system is low on pressure or the switch is goosed.

P.S. you cannot check the system pressure yourself, it will have to be checked out with a specialist machine.

took it to a specialist garage; they refilled the aircon and it was ok;

2 days later it stopped working again; I opened the bonnet - the right pipe which runs in front of the radiator /and has a plastic spring shield over part of it/ was wet and oily;

took it back to the guy, he tested for leaks /using the light/ but he couldn't see any green leakage spots.

said that if it was leaking from down there then it would have shown green on inspection;
