haha thanks mate, and me neither!

I'll be replacing all the MOMO gear as it's gone rotten through the harsh weather :( I'll be going with good ol' Sparco, with more of a circuit racer feel to it.

The dash is getting flocked too, but that is all way off in the future and is definitely not on any current list  :D

Leather seats are gorgeous and I have seen some in the Limited Edition GTi's but I have to say I like the standard cloth Recaros I have at the moment. :D

Looking superb mate!

What jungle juice have you got planned to clean up the interior with (seats etc.)?

I've been thinking this car would look superb with just a 1 inch drop on it - don't know what the speedbump count is round your way but it would be a shame to be scraping everything in sight!

Can't be long now 'til MOT time?

Thanks mate! :)

Ooh well I am starting off with some degreaser  then I'll be using a dash foam and polish. The seats will get some carpet cleaner and the carpets too. Looks like I may be doing it today after changing the pads on the CTS. I'm sick of it all being so dirty in there

They look awesome when lowered but an inch isn't a massive drop for them, I know what you mean though, it's a waste if you end up knackering the underside. Having said that I am looking for a coilover induced 60mm drop at some point. :D

Well done KP, it's looking great.

I am so impressed with your work rate and skill.

Thank you Raist! :D It's really rocketing ahead, the term skill is questionable though... ;)

Ok so now to today, I basically just cleaned up the Interior and it's come out quite well:

And for the first time ever, my GTi moves and the CTS doesn't!

Side-Skirt hardened off :D

General porn yet again :D

So now all that is left on my list is:

*MOT

*Fix Pedals

*Clear Oil Leak

*Fit Sunroof

*Fit Windscreen seal.

*Fit Splash Guards

And then she's done!! :D

Much well done KP. Like many have said you have done well to keep at it, I went through similar in my late teens with a beetle, the highs and lows, the blood sweat, tears and tantrums only seem a day away!

The best thing about it is when it rolls out onto the road legally and you can just drive

I still think those GTI seats are one of the nicest shapes and fabric style ever (maybe on a par with the Golf GTI tartan) would love to fit a full set in my CTS

Thank your very much mate :)

It is a very distinctive set of feelings that such a project launches you through. I wouldn't trade them for anything. :D

Very true, I was sat in them today for about an hour thinking about how nice they are, very supportive and decent for cruising too :)

They'd be a little out of place in a CTS purely because of their size, with the two stacked against each other we saw how big the CTS is in comparison!

Yeh I know they would look stupid in a CTS but I am going to see if the guy we use for re-trimming might be able to pull something out of the bag, either that or alcantara.....will have to save some pennies first though

Posted

Its funny though how cars evolve they do get bigger and bigger, my Mk3 Golf GTI is about the same size as the new Polo by my reckoning

Nice car and an interesting read

mooser, yeh that could make it work dude so give it a go! :D I'd be interested to see the result.

Cheers Paul!! A lot has gone into her to get it to this stage :D

Will probably be the end of the year before I look into it as I have a few externals to do on the CTS and I will have to pay the Golf some tlc when it comes back home too, It has had all the rust cut out (not really that much but I wanted it right) including re-doing the sills either side. I am glad I have an understanding Wife

haha it's always helpful to have the wife's backing by the looks of things

I'm guessing the Golf is a labour of love more than anything? :)

Yup it is but was pretty tidy when I bought it earlier this year, can't justify having a total rebuild on it but I am happy to get it as right as I can, I have a load of bushes to replace when I get it back (advised on the MOT, but passed first time)

Its a proper car with full FVWSH from new and drives bang tidy, all completely standard and thats the way I intend to keep it, once I get it back I will put up a few pics thats if no one objects? B)

Nice one dude, glad to see someone else into it like that :D

I'm sure there's a section in TOC that will accommodate for other Manufacturers :D

In the light of all this crap around getting parts in, I still have a strong mind set to kick this projects ass and get her to Japfest under her own steam  I am not going to give up. Too far in now.

Today has been a day of chasing up and ordering parts. I've ordered in some UK Legal Plates, Wipers and I have been chasing a few people for a Front Engine Mount.

I also went out and sorted out my lights. I had an H4 E1 when I needed either an E11 or E13, I tried an E12 and it melted so that was no good. Now I have the right Beams and I got two new Side-lights too:

The main H4 bulbs are also on but very dimly when the side lights are on too so all is well and no need for a new stalk! :D

If anyone catches wind of an engine mount going spare then please punch them in the face and nick it as I don't want to wait for postage  ;)

Oh and I'm also organising my MOT today... :|

Cheers,

oh dear, can it be made to fit or is it miles out?

Posted

No mate it's about 4cm out either side and it's too long front and back :(

I've started rebuilding my old spare roof with some filler paste, should look pretty epic if I keep my patience. Guess it will be shite then...
