It's drivable now!! :D She pulled away happily today and all there was, was a small coolant leak which we sorted. :D And yes, I was smiling!!!

I'm not taking more pictures until I'm happy with the bodywork and engine bay

Having said no more pics until she's done... I thought I'd show what needs to be done!

When she goes into the garage next week they'll sort the following:

*Frayed Mud Flap Paint

*Frayed Rear Bumper Paint

*Dented Front Wing

*Scratch on Tailgate

*Scratch on Roof

*Wing Position - it's slipped and snags the door.

*Scratch on Skirt

*Blemish Behind Repeater

It's a worryingly long list and really has been getting me down I won't lie, but I still wont stop until she is 110%

I tell you it is colder than a polar bears nuts out there!

I wanted to see if she'd start and she does after some persuasion - she cranks over very strongly but the fuel is a month old.

Basically I whipped off the PAS Belt and she still rattled when I ran her. I then removed the Water Pump Belt and the rattling stopped. Bingo.

I faffed for 20 odd minutes to get the pulley off, scrape off all the paint and then chamfer the pump spindle to make fitting easier. We got it all back together and started her with no issues, she ran beautifully as usual; Oil Pressure was perfect, Battery Voltage perfect and she idled like a dream right through all stages of cold start. I switched her off once I got to feel light headed

A simple and encouraging finish for xmas!

A day of on/offs, went off to fit the ARB bushes and new drop links, but I couldn't get them off the White GTi for the lack of my Allen Key Set :(

I also found the front brakes are binding, so now I need to take the Sliders out and grease them - thanks for the diagnosis help dawesy  The unusual thing is that the pedal is weak and travels to the floor suggesting a leak, although I am living in the hope that when I wind the possibly stuck piston back in, she will return to normal.

Also, my Battery has taken a few hits from the Alarm, so of we went to Halford to jump start her, plus we now have a booster/power pack to jump start her when I have no one around. Not to mention a tyre pressure gauge and compressor to fill her back up when she has been sat.

Annoying I know, but I have now come to the conclusion that it is not the car - it's me. I need to drive her, so now the push begins for my license so I can use her as god intended!

Some crappy iPhone shots! :D

I love the cabin view

Got a little of the way to the solution today - stripped down the Front O/S Calliper and greased the dry sliders along with the pads, they were bone dry and stuck.

Having put it back it freed off a little but it was still too tight. It's pretty well confirmed that the Calliper Piston has stopped retracting. Not sure why the system feels weak though, the hoses are fine and there isn't a leak to be seen so it's an air lock somewhere annoyingly.

Thank you dude! Yeh I am now growing to love her again, perfect car to hone my mechanical skills on I must say - I've never stripped the brakes on a car so many times so quickly in one day before!

Made some good progress! Whipped off the Callipers and greased the pistons, sliders, pins and pads several times, finding improvements in piston movement each time! So no ceasing going on here - WIN

The only pain is that the brakes are tougher than a nuns stare with engine off but when the servo kicks in the pedal drops too much - it should drop but not to the very back. The brakes on these are traditionally soft but when I get her tarted before a photo shoot I'll have the brakes bled properly in the garage.

So a success all in all, very happy:

Thought I'd put up a mini update, having finished off her epic 800 mile trip I decided to clean her right up and get the engine bay a little cleaner since it got coated in a mixture of road grime and CV grease.

So here are the couple of snaps taken there and back:

On the way back I had a nice surprise:

Today I washed her down and cracked on with the engine bay...

And spot the difference ;)

I now have some TRD Carbon Fibre Seat-Belt pads on order to go with the latest updates, one of which was the removal of the centre cap for the steering wheel, which has really smartened it all up! ;)

Over the summer however I will be looking to fit a 6-Speed C160 Gearbox and the last polybushes to tighten it all up again.

Another nice update, I like the idea of the 6 speed gearbox, that will make it a little special :)

Even under your bonnet is clean :)
