Cheers matey!

These are so damn rare now, which makes me all that much prouder to say mine's cleaner than an OCD ridden cat - And now for some bigger, better, more exciting updates!

Having gotten to grips with the way she handles on standard suspension - bar poly'd ARB's I have now decided exactly what needs doing, and so here is what is on its way to me now:

*40mm PI Springs

*Coil Spring Compressor

*TRD Number Plate Bolts

*2X 5mm Spacers

The springs are about 30% stiffer so the ad says, but the drop is important and could be too much - I have measured my clearances to the ground and the angles of my Lower Arms at the front, and 40mm could do the job just right - however I am going to monitor it to make sure the arms remain parallel with the ground.

The plate bolts are for looks - I've been doing all sorts of small tweaks and I'm loving it.

5mm Spacers are for the rear wheels, she needs a slightly wider track for a meaner stance but also to help bring out the Calibre's a little more to the bodywork, rather than simply being hidden within the arches.

And as if that wasn't enough, I'm swapping both front shocks and all the Bushes for my Poly kit while I'm at it! :D Oh and the ding in the wing is getting taken out when the brakes get re-bled! :D :D :D

Id give the PI springs a miss mate. I bought a set for a vvc rover and they were shocking. Completely ruined the handeling of the car! They were on ir about a week before i HAD to take them off and put something else on. Went for AVO springs which were so much better on that car.

Cheep springs are cherp for a reason. Spend a little extra and get some proper progressively wound ones like Eibach or AVOs if your not going the coilover route ;)

love the car KP, it certainly has come together really well!!

I wouldnt go for the C160, appartenly it is weaker when compared to the C56 (both with LSD) - this seems to be the general consensus amongst the ae111 (levin) community btw

oh and i have read similar reports about the PI springs - they corroded and snapped after just one year of usage!!? this happened to one of the members at clubae111

Shame about the springs really, although having checked up on it before purchase I am told they bucked up their ideas and I will just see how it goes. There are other more reputable brands there for £150, they were reduced from £180 which is what everyone else is charging these days anyway.

As with anything I've heard 50/50 about them so I'm sure they'll be fine, and seeing as they're on their way it's a little late now!

I know the C160 is weaker however it still handles the power of a 20 Valve well enough - or so I am told, so it should be fine to use with my 16 Valve 4A-GE :)

Thanks for the feedback guys, will keep ya'll updated!

A big day of beautiful weather, listening to the Twinny burble and the radio while I put the elbow-grease into detailing.

It's all been done, so here's the result (Pic Heavy):

Thanks dude! I'm sorry that I never reply, I have stopped getting notifications from TOC so I never see people comment, and eventually I forget about the Thread.

Since my last post I've lowered the front of the car myself and attempted the rear, which I had to send her to the garage for seeing as the Drop Links were knackered.

They have sorted them now but I am collected her Thursday/Friday because having heard they're closing down I wanted them to do the dents and paint on the wing and chip above the drivers door - they still have the exact paint tub they painted her with and I don't trust anyone else!

Now that its really nice, a mighty, mighty fine motor... looks a lot better being that little lower.

Cheers guys! The lowering springs were £115 delivered from Europerformance.co.uk

I fitted the fronts myself but the rears were done at the garage when I ran out of time :D

And I hope you got to see her on saturday Steven! :)

Here are some of the latest porn shots before I whack on some TWIN CAM 16 stickers that were originally fitted to the AE82 GT. I have got some serious problems with the brakes and suspension bushes though, so the MOT is going to be a battle and a half! :(

I did mate :) i was going to post up the pictures i took but i deleted my whole camrea libary on the way home on accident :(

She is an absolute stunner and an absolute credit to you  looked so nice in the blazing sun shine :)

i also got to see johns Supercharged TTE corolla but couldnt say long as the last round of drifting was on and wanted to leave before we got stuck in (last year took 3hours to get out of the car park... :/) boy were the team jap speed boys throwing them around, some crazy speeds and angles!

Whats next for her?

Posted

Ah sweet! And cheers man, yeh I understand wanting to get out soon, it took us 4 and 1/2 hours to get in! :( Sorry that I wasn't there for a chat though!

Johns rolla is a stunner too, I love the 4A-GZE engines and would enjoy building one some day no doubt.

Next up is mostly repair work really. I've got a full polyurethane bush kit that I need to fit very soon, I've just ordered front calliper refurb kits and brake master cylinder refurb kits too. When they arrive I'll fit them all up along with some braided brake lines up front. This should hopefully have the brakes and suspension done for another 20 years :D apart from discs and pads etc which is just wear and tear.

I've got a TSW Black tow strap on the way too, swiftly followed with the Twin Cam 16 stickers as seen on AE82 GT's

bs_61.jpg

There are loads of little tweaks that I need to do, like getting the sunroof wrapped again, fitting windscreen trims and a boot spoiler seal, all of which should be done in the coming months bit by bit!

Ye i was a bit gutted as i missed out on both having a chat with you and john - i only found the cars when we wanted to leave :(

Plans sound good, Shell be good for the next 20 years  i realy like the original twin cam stickers, become a real sucker for oem atm :)

Posted

Today I fitted up the tow strap, and later this week a mate of mine is properly fitting my Twin Cam 16 Stickers. I have new carbon wrap on order for the sunroof, although I will be painting this the proper white to match the car, I still want to wrap it for a long term finish to prevent rust and to also give me a place to put my keys and what not without having a guilty conscience

After a quick wash:

I found out that you really can't trust anyone when you have a beautiful thing. I parked up outside the workshops to have her to hand to work on the tow strap. The car was 10 metres from the door by the side ally of the workshop. I left the windows down to keep air going through but alarmed her to be cautious. Sure enough by the time I walked to the door the alarm went off. I grabbed my breaker bar and walked back to the car to see some of the farmer lot running off. Nothin had been touched or moved because the alarm obviously put the fear of god into them. But for fuck sake why do people think they have any right to touch anything off anyone else's!?

Thanks tibs!!! :D

Important updates - carbon skin braided brake lines have arrived and an upper windscreen seal is on order!

There is a catastrophic water leak from the sunroof tray which really is going to take some doing to sort out properly but I'm not far off. :D

Love it! In print, always a good feeling!

A credit to the work you have done. Full feature on the cards?

Posted

Cheers fella. :) I don't know about a full feature yet, although that is what I am pushing for and will be hunting for when all the last bits and pieces fall into place

Was so chuffed to see her in there as I really didn't expect it at all!

KP

Posted

Thats a good result :) you should get that framed.

Posted

Brake lines fitted up today with pretty well no issues! I'm really impressed with the kit as well seeing as everything is lovely stainless steel, so they're going to last bloody years! yes.gif

Next up is the suspension bushes but tomorrow will likely be spent making a hench bush removal tool. The one I made years ago worked.... once. So this time I'm using some heavy gauge tube, high tensile threaded rod and thick clamping faces on the tube ends. strong2.gif

We're going large this time! laugh.png
