hi ther all. my wife and i have just bought a 2005 xt5. on they way home from toyota (some 2hours away) i decided to turn the sat nav off and put on the radio on. but to my suprise it wouldnt pic up radio stations it just kept searching but nothing. i got home and called toyota they told me that there waranty does not cover the radio but kindly offered to look at it for me. i told them it was to hard for me to drive 2 hours to take it them as i have my own business and cant drop everything to take it to them. what could it be? is it a common fault on these? anyone?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

My first bet would be that someone has forgotten to plug in the aerial cable when the sat nav was installed. Do you know if the sat nav head unit has been newly installed?

Fist thing you should check is the aerial on the roof... is the whip there? If so, then check if the cable is installed on the head unit itself. Taking out the head unit is a simple operation for the Rav4.2, but I'm not familiar with the facelift version, so someone else could help you out whit a step-by-step guidance...

Welcome to the club.

Don't forget you have some statutory rights and although the radio might not be covered under warranty you bought it in good faith assuming that it was of merchantable quality. Tell them to fix it or demand your money back.
