94 Mr2 Project Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My first post on here, so hello everyone!!

I'm thinking of buying and building up a 1994 MR2, and trying to make a monster on a budget build. (under £3.5 k ish).

I'm a novice, but very capable and a quick learner.

Thinking new heads and cam package.

What sort of 1/4 times should I get out of a car like this?

What is the biggest block that's been put into one?

What sort of times would I be looking at then?

What's the weight of this car, and can it go on much of a diet?

Already looking at good weight to power, but I wanna make a tin can...hehe

Looking for good power off the line and under 60mph.

I also wonder if forced induction would be worth looking at too, but the cost may mean this is a non starter, how much for FI?

I hear the MR2's suspension was fairly sorted by 94, but what problems may I encounter along the way??

Thanks for the advise, any input is very welcome...........

P.S I guess 1/4 mile times aren't so important, I want a 0-60 in 4 seconds.

What mods would I need, and how much is it roughly going to cost??

I'm guessing you are looking at stripping out a Turbo version or are you looking at getting an n/a?

n'a would be cheaper, and it would also mean I wouldn't have to strip out a turbo.

To get an n/a anywhere near the performance of a turbo would cost a lot of money. If it is 0-60 times you are looking for then a Tubby is the answer.

What Andy said lol

0-60 in 4 secs in an N/A rofl i nearly soiled myself there..

Hmm, I never said I wouldn't do FI, just that a base car without turbo would be cheaper than one with....... The turbo already installed wouldn't of been big enough anyhow.....

Now considering a Caterham, or LS1 in a RX7......Not really budget build material though.

I have a XR4i V6 engine laying around also, could be fun in a lightweight car. N2O could be in the equation somewhere too me thinks.....
