hi im a newby to site and toyotas and hope someone can give a bit of advise on cos of new kickdown cable and where i can see diagram of how to replace it thanks in antisipation garrybuild

Whilst there is a cable that runs from the throttle body arm to the gearbox it is not a traditional kickdown cable but rather informs the gearbox about the throttle position. These boxes are ECT (electronically controlled) and that cable very seldom breaks. It does however need adjusting from time to time and actually becomes stuck due to corrosion. Some working at it with WD40 from the top is often sufficient to release it.

If you do nee dto replace it you will need to drop the gearbox sump to do the job. Do what I suggest above first.

Ok well in that case it was incorrectly adjusted in the first place

You will need to drop the transmission sump. The cable enters through the right hand side of the box. Just use your logic and be patient.

The adjustment is very simple

On the throttle side of the cable there is a rubber boot and on the cable there is a little solder lump. The forward end of this lump must protrude 1-2mm from the end of the boot i.e. you must only be able to see 1-2mm of this lump protruding from the boot with the throttle closed.

Toyota only as far as I know.

Doesn't sound good. Check the colour AND level of the oil. If brown or black and smells burned you have a serious issue.

Auto boxes also have clutches and something called bands. The clutches can burn out if the oil is old or the level is too high or too low.
