Carina E Performance And Mileage

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a Carina E 1.6 4A-FE (Estate - lean burn) form about 2 000 kms already.

for the fuel consumption - I have about 6.7-7 l / 100 for long trip (no air condition - 5 persons with luggage) - for what I read it should be possible to improve it. I haven't done anything special yet, just changed the air filter with a standard one and changed the exhaust system - also pretty standard, nothing fancy.

what can I do to lower a bit more the fuel consumption?

is it possible to incerase a bit the power and also lower the fuel consumption?

I passed through a gas analyser and the mechanic told me that there is a bit too much gasoline in the exhaust - what could this mean, any improvement possible?

Maybe a problem with the oxygen sensor on the down pipe from the exhaust manifold causing the wrong air to fuel ratio,

regards Pete.

I would be very happy if I had those figures of the fuel consumption. I have the same model of car, but my consumption is much higher and the air-fuel mix is correct. I filled her up today and on the last tank I had 7.3 lit / 100 km. It was not very much long distance driving, but mostly I don't have much load in the car.

This might lower the fuel consumption:

A bit higher air pressure in the tyres, or at least don't have too low pressure.

Try to avoid extra luggage, roofracks etc...

Try to drive smooth and not exceed the speed limits.

Try not to drive short distances.

I noticed that driving smoothly and trying to drive below the speedlimits do a lot on the fuel consumption.

well ... the car was full and heavy, tyres at 2.2 bars (still winter tyres, but it was quite warm - do you think this could cause a problem of mileage - from what I know this is a problem only for the tyres)? - for drivign I was about 110-120 at motorways (about 400 km of a total trip of 950 km) and about 90-100 at normal routes - generally I try to keep a speed that high that I can take every corner without using the brake (of course not always possible).

I know it is good, especially good, as I am driving on LPG, but some people on the net say that they have 5-5.5 / 100 even less than 5.

I was thinking ... as the the mix is a bit rich ... if I add a cold air intake? should this improve performance and keep the mileage? also in general, do the cold air intake improve mileage?
