Hi all,

If i was to fill my car with 97% octane petrol (super unleaded) what are the advantages of adding an octane booster mix.

I have a 2.0 3GSE engine none turbo.

Can someone please explain if possible... The does & donts

Cheers

big E.

the 3sge was made by "suzuki" its a high rev engine . i found the gear ratios long in 1st ,2nd . 3rd . to get any response from the engine dont be scared to hoof it , at about 4500 revs you get a kind of vvti effect and for a while the car wakes up . try high octane fuel and ocane booster by all means , but much of the time when you add something , the dyno in your pants seems to think its alot more powerfull than it is . "PLACEBO effect.

i once put nothing but redex octane boost in my tank, drove my car right into the sun. total writeoff, i was gutted :(

GT4 Booster, you say the JDM cars are mapped on 100RON fuel. will my 94 celica have been mapped on this stuff? i usually stick 97Ron stuff in it but will 2 extra RON's make much difference?

Suzuki!? You mean Yamaha yeah?

Space Monkey - on a 3SGE the difference is so small using 95ron/97ron that its not noticeable. Your best off saving a few quid and putting 95ron in, even on an import.

noted mate, gonna stick some v power in for a month or two then drop down to 95.

is it true the Jap celicas are slightly more powerful than the UK spec?

The engines are identical, there is no power difference between the two. Its just with the stronger fuel in Japan they will create more than the UK cars.

Bring an import over here, run it on 95 and it'll make the same power as a UK car. Likewise take a UK car to Japan, run it on their fuel and it'll make as much as an import.

As Lee said, it's a Yammi engine (at least the head). And the "kick" is the TVIS system (or equivalent ACIS on other engines) which is a variable length intake manifold.

The octane booster adds "One point of octane" .. so 97RON fuel would be 97.1RON .. nothing in other words.

There are also some octane boosters that do nothing but mask the knock sensor. Meaning the car doesn't pull timing as it should - more power, but knocking engine. I've not really read around the subject though.

The only "JDM" high output engine was the Beams .. and that'll need "looking after" on UK fuel.

Yeah totally....me personally i would never run the beams lump on anything less than 97 super. If i had one i would try and always run it on Tesco 99

For the car? The same ..

Tt's only the SS2 / SS3 that is different, and I believe that is the GT4 suspension.

But I'm not 100% on that.

Either way, parts can be got from Mr T without any issues.

That's what I thought. The SS means Super Strut .. but get someone else to confirm it.

SS1 - 140BHP 3S-FE (Smaller brakes)

SS2 - 173bhp 3S-GE Identical to UK GT. some cars had superstrut as it was an option

SS3 - Early ones are the same as SS2 but late ones had the Beams 200bhp VVTI Red top engine. Superstrut again an option and on some cars.

it was built 1994 so maybe its the same as the ss2?

You'd know if you had a 200ps Beams engine.

It's got a big red cam cover with "Beams" written on it.
