Carina E 1.6 Xli Strange Noise

My Carina makes exactly the same noise as in vide on about 2700 to 3000 rpm. Exhaust is still original (1994),no rust and catalisator is still okay visualy and tested with exhaust gas test (CO,CO2 and NOx is normal values)

Sound is very annoying because when I'm in 3th gear and drive about 50Km/h or in 5th and 100 km/h sound is very loud. It seems like interference with something in exhaust system but don't know what.

Judging by this video and othe owners of this model I'm not only one with this problem

I have exactly the same problem on my Carina but around 2500 rpm. I believe the reason is the termo shield near the engine, just above where the exhaust start. The last time I was for a service, the guy made some additional fixing of this shield, which significantly reduced the noise, but still however still exist. The shield resonates at 2500 rpm and as it is just above the exhaust and it sounds as noise from the exhaust.

make another guy sit in your car to rev at 2700-3000 (where your carina resonates) and you will see the shield if the problem is from there at your car.

It sounds almost like it is the heat shield, my father had that sound on his Starlet last year. Check the fastening of it. If it is ok double check that the exhaust manifold is correctly mounted. My manifold is in very bad shape and it is sounds bad too.

Unfortunately it isn,t termo shield. I totaly removed out and problem is still here. In my opinion sound source is near or between wehere exhaust is fixed with catalisator

when I changed katalysator and exhaust - the service guy said that there is a lot of noise at the katalysator - changin of the system smooothed a lot the noise and improved performance a lot, but noise at 2500 was still there and significant. Fixing the termo shield also lowered a lot the noise, but it is still there a bit higher around 2500, compared to other rpm.
