Got The New "toy" Today...

After a nine week wait my new 3 door T3 D4-D arrived today (see the only other topic I've ever started for more info about my previous worries ;) ). Just as DieselPower promised at the time the car is just so much nippier and quieter than her 1.0S predecessor and I'm sure that as the engine loosens off (only 120-odd miles on the clock now that I'm home) then the pace will increase.

Surprisingly, she's Japanese built - having read previous posts about the relative merits of Japan vs. France I thought that, although petrol models could come from either country if you have a preference then the diesels - being a far less common powersource for cars in Japan would be French only. Y439 was French and, quite frankly (excuse the pun!) was perfectly well built - she even passed the glovebox test!

On a different note, a word about the Toyota MiniDisc changer. When you get it, please don't do as I did. I left the dealer all smiles and thought, "That's good - I'll just pop over to the Tesco carpark, take a piccy for my new avatar (see left!), load up the MD changer and head up the road before the snow". Evetually I forced a disc in (it's hidden under the driver's seat), but could I get it to make a sound (it was playing and whirring and stuff)- could I heck. 20 minutes in the freezing cold later I haeded back across the road the the dealer. A quick demo to the sales department and it was decided that this required a technician. An hour and a half later (having pulled the guts out of the car) they tried with one of their own discs. Cue red face and grovelling apologies on my part... The changer doesn't support LP2 and LP4 recording modes... bear this in mind so that you don't have to re-record your whole collection so that you can use your 400 quid extra! Also (I'm on a roll here), I only discovered tonight that to load it with howevermany disks you have to line them all up and push them all in at the same time. It doesn't tell you any of this on the 2-sides-of-A4 instruction "manual". :ffs: :censor: :ffs:

Teething troubles aside though, if this Yaris is nearly as good as my last one then I'll be more than happy and if any of you come across Y439 AES on your travels then please treat her well. :crybaby:

This is far longer than anticipated...

Cheers,

Alan

glad you like your yaris d4d despite some teething problems :)

i drive a d4d myself and the car does get quite noticeably more peppy when you have run sufficient miles on it.

After a "brisk" drive at night from leicester to kent, i found afterwards i could comfortably cruise at 90 with the engine only running about 3k rpm. i genuinely thought for a time my speedometer must be faulty :D
