Towing With An Avensis T180

Hi, it's a long time since i have been on here... Having owned an 06 reg Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 for the last year i have decided to part exchange it for a 56 reg Toyota Avensis T180 in Lucerne Silver. It has 57k on the clock but it seems to be in pretty good nick really, no marks (that i have seen!!) to the outside or inside and i really like the way it drives. I would like to know what it tows like though as we own a caravan which has a maximum weight of 1150kg. The T180 has a maximum braked towing weight of 1300kg which i thought would be higher, but it is still fine for our van. I have read a few posts regarding the MPG figures not being upto much but it's not really that what i am after, i just want something that will pull our van with relative ease and something that doesn't start to go backwards at the first sign of a hill or even a slight gradiant.

Any views on my purchase and the car as a towcar are much welcomed.

I paid £7800 for it and got them to fit a towbar in with the price too. (Have i got a good deal?)

if your worried about rolling backwards... or not moving.

Get your self on an open road and work through the gears ;)

you'll then know. the car you have bought is no slouch ;)

I have no problem with the car, just any experience of towing with one would be helpful. :)

well...

space your self from the car infront

do not exceed 50mph.. go slower if needed.

do not shift early.. keep in lowergear and rev higher

Most importantly ... your braking distance is alot longer...

I tow (since January 09) a large folding camper (1000 Kg) with my 56 plate T180 hatchback.

Absolutely no problems whatsoever - I could, if I were so inclined, race several cars upto 50mph whilst towing.

Plenty of low down grunt with this motor & a decent mpg when towing but only just a little more (when towing) than my old 02 Avensis 1.8 petrol which I loved.
