ive heard that getting an air filter in a 4efe is useless, unless you have a decent cold air feed

im not sure what this means...is it just fresh air going into the air filter

how will i acheve this?

thanks...ill post pics of the engine bay (stock right now) if it helps. just ask

Anup :)

An air feed involves fitting some sort of pipe(usually thin corrugated alloy) from the front of the car, usually behind the bumper, and to the airfilter, this then funnels cold air to the air filter. You would also ideally need a heat shield around the airfilter to deflect the hot engine heat away from the filter itself.

In all honesty fitting an induction kit (cone air filter) is pretty much useless without doing the above, all that will happen is that it'll be drawing in hot air and you will actually loose performance. You'd probably be better off fitting an upgraded panel filter which is a direct replacement for the stock filter, ok it won't make the same noise but will be a better bet in aiding performance.

Where could I get the piping for the air from, I have a 'Japarts' and a 'Halfords' down my road, would any of them have the piping or a heat shield...

and would it be easy to fit?

Thanks :)

Anywhere like that should sell the alloy tubing or try eBay or even a diy place like b&q.

For the heat shield any thin metal will do, best to make a template out of cardboard first though.

Fitting is straight forward, position the shield on the hot side of the filter and find some where to secure it to, as for the air feed its just a case of finding space to push it through from filter to front bumper.
