Attention T180 / Sr180 Owners

I have notice how a lot of T180 / SR180 owners are moaning about dash rattles which puzzled me as mine is fine but then I thought about a problem I had when I first got the T180. When I first got the T180 I noticed at junctions and traffic lights etc that there was what seemed to be a dash rattle / vibration when the engine was idling but if I revved a little it went away, on closer inspection I found this was not the dash but the airbox.

The joint shown in the pictures had lost most of the sponge tape you can see so hence this was rattling / vibrating a lot at idle due to the engine moving and the pipe being fixed to the car bodywork. If yours rattles just apply a little pressure to the joint and if it goes it’s a very easy fix. I used some double sided sticky sponge tape then when I booked my car in for a recall I told Toyota of this problem and they arranged for the parts to be there to repair this on the same day. I hope this might help some users find there annoying rattle.

Hi

Im new to the forums, this is my first post!!

I have just bought a 2007 57 plate Toyota Auris 2.2 T180. So far im very pleased with the car, exceot for an annoying rattle that sounds simmilar to the one that Rick D4D mentions in this post. I know this was posted back in 2009 so sorry for resurrecting this!

The rattle I have is only audible inside the car when the car is idling, and it also dissapears when I rev the car. It sounds like it is coming from the engine compartment on the left hand side (when sitting in the car). Ive had a look around the engine and in particular the Airbox which does seem to have a snapped fastener on one side of it but not sure if this is the cause.

I see in Rick D4Ds original post that some pictures were posted of the airbox joint that had lost some of the 'sponge tape', but the pictures are now removed. Please is it possible to re-post these pictures or give any more help in locating the joint to put pressure on to see if the noise stops? The rattle is slowly driving me mad and I would really appreciate some help with getting this sorted!!!

Cheers!

coincidental? I've just bought a 07 T180 as well, but mine rattles when I'm coming to a stop? But mine sounds like it's coming from the steering column area though.

From the air filter box there is a inlet plastic pipe that connects to the body work, this is secured by a back peg/pin etc just simply remove the peg place a rubber washer under the plastic and refit the peg/pin to make this a tighter fit. Works a treat and only takes around 1 minute to do and over a year later the problem has not come back.
