Brakes?

when im driving through town or anywhere then braking there is an ear piercing squeaking sound from the front and it sounds like a sort of grinding on the front passenger side am i right in guessing that its the brakes?

they soundlike they are rubbing and the squeaking is only when im stopping.

cheers.

im new and doing up a pretty battered starlet gt with a new engine and gearbox.
