Just a quick note to say that I've finaly decided to jack my T180 in and (with the agreement of the missus), finally get the car of my dreams (see attached photo's).

Got it second hand with 4,800 miles on the clock. 330d M Sport Coupe with Sat Nav and lots of extras. The 'Beast' arrived last Tuesday. 0-60 in 6 seconds, 245 bhp and from my 110 mile a day trips down the motorway to work each day, I'm averaging 46.3mpg - better than the best I'd got out of my T180 already!

It's the first time I've had a car with auto box and paddle shift gear changes, but the 6 cylinder engine is as smooth as smooth can be and acceleration is awesome. Only downside is that the 255/30 R19 rear tyres cost £332 each!! ;-(

You've been a great bunch of guys and in many ways I'm going to miss the exchanges and information shared on this forum - it highlighted the fact that I'd bought a car which in theory was great but in practice was let down by an engine that ran out of puff, a truely lousy radio reception (which couldn't be fixed despite my dealers best efforts) and questionable build quality.

Good luck and I wish you all many happy miles of motoring.

Regards,

Peter

I am happy to hear that you got a car which you've been dreaming of. It is not good when you're driving a car which doesn't feel and act like you'd like it to.

Hope you won't have any serious and stressing problems with your BMW and that it'll be car which will provide many happy, easy and safe miles at the same time! (I drove a car like that last summer, but it was 325CiA. It was so great, the seats were wonderful, plenty of adjustments. As a pretty rare speciality I noticed throttle pedal which started from the bottom so my leg was resting all the time! Very very nice).

It's been a pleasure to have you here on this forum, hope you'll find your way to the BMW forum and will get good advices and info regarding your car there...

All the best for you and one more time, good luck with your new car. You do really have a good reason to be happy man now :)

Best regards, Alex

One of the best all round cars money has ever bought. If not the best money can buy. Especially as you got yours ex-demo or 1 owner low mileage.

Thanks.

£28,850 in total - after they gave me a lousy £9.5k for my T180 as P/Ex. List price for the car together with the extras comes to about £42k.

It was previously owned by a BMW (Bracknell) employee. Apparently if you work from the BMW Corporate office, employees (not sure at what grade), can 'buy' a BMW for their partners for just £100 a month. Most of the time they're hardly used.

I went out for a drive in it this Sunday just gone, parked it away from most of the other cars and despite that some 8ast@rd manged to put a crease in the passenger door from their car door. I'm gutted! Needless to say no messages or responsibility taken.

It shows, a lot of the guys here know the 330d is a special car, many other people do too.

Unfortunately you will now be the victim of mindless acts like this. The guys who work here have all had it.

One of them who owns a Porsche 911 turbo has had a bucket full of stones thrown on his bonnet twice! whilst parked up and he has no enimies. He must have had it dented and scratched quite a few times and someone also slashed his rear tyre too and he had to have it collected to be fixed.

Unlucky about the door! Look after her as she looks a gooden.

9.5k actually sounds about right i think, but you got yourself one with all the toys so it is value either way.

I will have to make do with my T180 for now, I will also be seriously considering a BMW next, certainly a German anyway.

Same here, have to use my Auris for some time. But the next one will probably be BMW or Audi. Maybe Mitsubishi...

You could pick up a VRS DSG for little or no extra cost once you have sold yours.

I have driven WRX and kit cars with 0-60 of 3.5 seconds and it does not matter how much power you have you will always de-sennsertise and want more. On public roads in Deisle powered cars I find by the time your having fun your speeding or they are too heavy to chuck round roundabouts. So I am going to make sure my wifes car will be light and nimble... an Elise or even Smart Brabus or Swift Sport.

Just my opinion.

Nice BMW though... well envious.

Only £220 fitted for FK452 :P

Which problems do you exactly mean by reliability issues?

beamer is brilliant but will no doubt have reliability issues in the future

You can't instantly assign reliability problems to every BMW ever made.

Sure the 3 and most notably the 5 and 7 series had problems on the past models possibly due to cost cutting on parts, so there was a plethera of different issues.

So far the 3 series hasn't shown the same level of failures. The most common is turbo failure and in my opinion i think quite a few failures could be down to temperature control; which doesn't exist as a readout on the dash. I reckon a lot of people aren't letting the car fully warm before using the performance. And those turbo's can run around 600 degrees C. A simple 20 second gentle drive or idle before shut off can reduce this down to about 150 degrees C. If the car isn't driven or left to cool i'm not sure how long / if the pump is primed for oil flow to cool; despite the advances in oil technology, heat dissipation and anti-coking materials.

Other "common" issues to effect the current 3 series are dodgy manual gearboxes on the 318 and 320d models and personal taste issues from owners who don't like the run flat tyres on the m-sport models; resulting in tramlinning.

Apart from that it is unfair to suggest that every BMW will have reliability issues. But to be fair at some point every car has reliability issues so your statement is quite general :)
