Diesel Tuning Performance Chip / Toyota Avensis D4d

I seen this Diesel Performance chip on ebay, what i wanted to know is if anyone has used this on the forum, if so is dead easy to fit and are there any noticeable improvements straight way many thanks rhee

I tried posting this very same thing in March but the results from the forum were very mixed so i didn't bother, they say the cheapo ones just contain a resistor which tricks the system and increases the fuel pressure to the injectors hence more power. The question is how does that improve the MPG, maybe someone else can explain. There are others on the market like the one Lindop Toyota supply but this is not a Toyota part and it cost 3 times as much, what does this one do that is different? I have also heard that the Avensis ECU may reject these types of units so maybe you can get some clarification from the supplier on this point along with some info on just what the unit consists of.

I will be following your post with interest to see what your outcome is especially if you buy one, sorry to make you the guinea pig, maybe if someone else posts a good result we can both buy one.

Just had a quick look on eBay and the feedback for this item seems to be very good but only a few Toyota ones on there.

Cheers ... Pete.

Because when you have more power, after you have got used to it for a while, you can use lighter throttle settings and therefore less fuel. If you continue to thrash the car around with your new found power, you will NOT get a better MPG out of the car.

Some of the Avensis models dont like the cheap kits, we have supplied many owners of Avensis cars with kits, and apart from the ocassional glitch, have managed to help them out no problem. I cant vouch for everybody elses kits, but ours work!

We WILL have a T180 kit soon!!! I am waiting to trial it on a demo, each time I come to fit one the demo gets sold, but we will have one soon

This is an incredibly cheap price £90+£6 - I paid about £350 for mine and the claims are similar. I'd try to find out exactly what is in the box - is it a resistor or is it some dedicated computer with sophisticated logic? If they can't or won't tell you then avoid them. Also bear in mind that some of these boxes are rebadged to the seller's name. There aren't that many original manufacturers of the decent ones.

As to performance - there are a couple of schools of thought on this. Yes you probably will get some kind of power/torque increase. You might even get a fuel consumption decrease. However the debate is over how well these are done. Some people don't like boxes that fool the ECU.

The downside of these is that the unit may try to fool a sensitive ECU. If you do a search on Spider in the Avensis Club forum here you might come across my bad experience of this. The eBay unit claims it is individually programmed for an Avensis D4D. Mine claimed that but needed me to adjust it. Make sure you can return it if you do buy it and it doesn't work because the ECU goes into dumb mode (or make sure it is adjustable).

How much are the ones from lindop toyota ?

Hi mate if you are new like me on here (2 months) you may not know that if you go to Parts-king's last reply to you ..... you can click on his name and send him a message.

This is a great forum but like everything else it takes a while to find your way around it, LOL.

Regards Pete.

I haven't any experience of this one and I was warned off boxes that use PC like connectors.

The one I have been using for 7000 miles is the Synergy from tuning-diesels.com. This costs about £150 and literally takes 10 minutes to fit. It has an external adjustment so you can go from mild to fairly wild and see what setting suits you.

I have noticed a 10% improvement in economy but the main thing is the extra torque. The difference in acceleration, particularly in top gear is brilliant. I would highly recommend this box.

Hi Mickey, i have a 2007 2.2d4d 150 (2AD-FTV engine) Avensis T-Spirit engine what is yours? I went on the tuning-diesels.com Synergy web site and it does seem to a very good system, i do like the idea of the extra control unit to have inside the car for about £20 extra.

What sort of MPG figures are you getting now compared to before you fitted it. I get 41mpg average town driving and up to 62mpg on long journeys with average speed 65mph. (all results from the on board computer).

I have had the ECU re-map done at Toyota just recently and the mpg figures quoted here were after this was done, they are roughly the same as before ... maybe slightly better.

Regards Pete.

Avensis 2.0 D4D = 126p / 300Nm

Tuned

160ps / 360Nm

The 126 is the model that started in 2006/2007. A 55 Avensis will have the old 2L engine with lower power/torque.

Thanks so mine must be 116, so far i have come across a couple of different models the one off eBay, lindop toyota, synergy, and the one from diesel tuning.com all doing the same thing with big price differences. Which one do you reckon i should go for ?

Ours! Well I would say that would'nt I?

Look, you pays yer money and takes your chance with some of these ebayers. We sell on eBay and have a 100% feedback record, does your prospective seller? We will be here tomorrow to take your phone call should you have something to ask, it might be a bit more tricky locating a phone number for one off eBay, it's a personal choice, but dealing with somebody in the UK (anybody, not just Lindops) has to provide some peace of mind

I'm not qualified to say which is best. Mine works, but I've no idea what its merits are in relation to others.

I'd split it into bits:

1) which technology - add-on box, common rail adjustment etc.?

2) then which company? After-sales service is paramount. I felt I had one of the best (on paper and claims) add-on boxes but the company let me down with its poor after sales service. A small company can offer a good product and good after-sales service so the one you referred to first may be just as good (and cheaper) than the Spider box I bought with its flash web site.

Some boxes are better than others. If you do consider the Spider box then ask them why they don't log calls about car models so as to change the standard settings in the light of in-field experience. Ask if they have actually tested the device on your model of car.

Hi Guys

I would just like to confirm that I have the one from Lindop, it does exactly as it should and I can say that their after sales service is without doubt the best :D .

2008 same model as yours. I was getting about 43mpg overall before now varies between 48 and 50. I do about 30 miles to work and back every day, mostly dual carriageway in reasonable traffic and manage to average 60 plus and about the same number of miles round the doors.

I'm quite happy with the fuel consumption but the extra torque is what sold me. Through the gears is good but it wasn't bad before. 60 to 90 in 6th is transformed (theoretically that is. Not allowed to go that sort of speed really)

No axe to grid one way or the other but the Synergy is supplied by "Rover Ron" who is based in Northumberland. Have a look at Rover owners sites or just Google him. He is held in high regard. I had a problem with the connectors on mine (there seem to be 2 or 3 types) and I live in Newcastle so gave him a ring and popped in to see him. He checked the car over and fitted a different box for me in minutes. Can't say fairer than that.
