High Pitch Sound From Engine

Hi,

I 'don't think' this is anything to worry about (fingers crossed).

My 1.8 vvti has recently started making a high pitched vibration kind of noise from the engine bay when first switched on, it's difficult to explain but sounds like it's coming from around the alternator area, definately on the left hand side of the engine bay.

It's louder when first switched on, but even when i've been driving for some time it's present but quieter. I was wondering whether it might be the fan belt, was going to experiment with a little wd40 to see but wasn't sure if this was a good idea on this car.

When first switched on it stays with the car as i accelerate. Once i've been driving for a while it will only be audible when it's idling.

Any suggestions from my vague and probably completely useless description?

Many thanks!!

Cheers, been and looked and the belt will turn slightly over 90 degrees, so possibly. Have given it a spray as a short term measure and will look at getting the parts and doing it myself when the weather improves slightly.
