Yaris And Snow/ice

Lucky i had a day off today but still got caught out in the snow...well black ice really

Took me 30 mins to get out of drive then managed the steep slope out of the cul-de sac OK.

On the way back from the shops...the car did skid ocassionally...the TC light came on with ESP. The temps were down to -2C so ice was forming on side of roads. Anyway approached that dreaded slope...I've always said to the Mrs how will we cope with that slope come winter and this was the testing time. Well steep gradient...not snow but black ice.....and a RWD vehicle ..what a combination.

On approach i slowed down...automatic by the way....turned to face the slope then tried to get some momemtum b4 approach. The car wnet forward about less than 10 yards and stopped at the steepest point....felt like i was going to slide off a mountain . So hastily put footbrake on and just sat there..thinking of next move...either i slide down into main road and hit cars passing me or I skid into the pavement and scratch mine sides...or better still hit the idiot behind me who knows I'm stuck and about to slide..but does a 3 point turn behind me........Where are those gritters....

Anyway...can't just sit here...so appied throttle and the Tc kicks in again.....going nowhere mate.......Change to W mode..gets worse change back to Summer mode and car moves...inch by inch.....

Eventually get to top of hill...and drive to house...forget parking in drive leave on road overnight mrs says.

Hope weather improves otherwise Thurs am may be another story....or may I catch bus.....I just wish i'd bought a Yaris...or maybe not.....How do they cope with slow..they are FWD though.

Okay ive just got in, it took me 3hrs to do 20 miles. in that time i saw 2 cars go head on 1 go off the road and a tasty Supra thought he was the man an overtook a load of people then the bank end went an he smacked a lampost. he jumped out and seemed ok, cue shouts of WWAAA**KER!!! from everyone hed just passed!

But the yaris remained true!

Glad I had a courtesy car today, was a Yaris too! My G6R had her tracking sorted so was glad of the 1 litre with skinny tyres as my G6R was spinning in 6th!

Its not so bad down here, although nearly all the snow fell yesterday evening just before I left work so it was a bit slippy on the way home. The Yaris is pretty well behaved in the snow tho - seems to manage OK :)
