I have a 1991 ssxrx with a cableless speedo i have checked the drive and this is ok also have had the dial out and visualy looks ok is there any way to check dial or pickup short of buying and trial and error, wire colours do not match those in the ellery or haynes manuals. Also what is the little switch on the side of the speedo only accessable when the dial is out or by pulling the rubber bung out of the face plate.

The little push switch is the reset switch for the timing belt light.

If your electronic speed has stopped working then it's usually the speed sensor on the transfer case thats failed.

If it is the sensor then the orange o/d light on the dash would be flashing on and off.
