Bit harsh!! Toyota have a superb plant up in Burnaston, Honda in Swindon, Nissan in Sunderland... The Japanese Manufacturers build a load of cars in the UK and truely support the UK Motor Industry!

True - but what car is UK built within a 10 grand budget ? :driving:

AygoYugo - If they've fixed the problem for the 09 model (which it's too early to tell) then surely that would mean they know where the specific problem is? Therefore they should be able to fix my leak....which they can't seem to?

Door seals are now made with an improved specification.

You should get yours replaced.

It would help if you can pinpoint the leak for yourself.

The scrappage scheme is due to last until next May OR until the funds put aside run out. With the levels of sales we are seeing, I doubt the scheme will last until September. If anybody is planning to talk advantage of scrappage the DO NOT put it off too long, as one famous supermarket says, when they're gone they're gone!

The UK cash-for-scrap scheme runs from tomorrow (18 May 2009) until March 2010 - or until the Government funding runs out (enough for 300,000 cars)

Correct, March not May sorry, getting my start and end dates mixed up, but 300,000 cars is the budget. Toyota expect around 65,000 cars to be sold via the scrappage scheme for them alone

AygoYugo - If you have read any of the leaking aygo threads you might have guessed that many are not rectified with a simple door seal.

My aygo is and has been leaking into the boot. After Mr.Ts second attempt and failure (with door seal replacement) I thought I (a non-mechanic) would try to help out the actual mechanics. I stripped out the boot, set up a spray hose and positioned it to fall like heavy rain, and I jumped in the boot and waited. I noticed two points of water coming in and I went back to toyota with my knowledge - they kind of looked at me as if, 'who are you to tell us how to do our job', but anyway they listened and "fixed" the car for the third time (why I should be expected/or have to pinpoint a leak in my under warranty car is beyond me) . Today I'm currently waiting until my next appointment to get the car seen too again for the 4th time as it still leaks.

On the side note; door seals do not work if the water isn't coming in the door. If you have already bought an aygo I would hate to have to say, 'I told you so', in 2 years time when you notice your car smells of damp.

Hopefully I'll be one of the 65,000 - but I'll miss my smokey old Escort. :crybaby:

I haven't seen any complaints about the NEW Aygo and that's what I'm interested in.

However, warranty or not, if I pinpointed any small leak in the boot seal or door seal I would fix it for myself with a blob of supaglue or mastic. I would only trouble myself to go back to the dealer if it were a major leak that obviously needed a new seal. :boxing:

Great, where did you end up getting it from ?

Not my fav choice but ended up at Westen Toyota in Sighthill Edinburgh.

Sales guy Chris was a good Guy think he gets the Aygo deals, don't think the other sales guys are intrested in the Aygo.

To get the deal he took £500 off the price and chucked in tank of fuel. Not the best deal in the world but on top of the 2K figured fair enough.

Carmakers Ford, Fiat and Honda have suspended the delivery of cars ordered under the Government scrappage scheme amid a row over who pays the VAT.

But Jon Pollock, of Britain's second largest car manufacturer Toyota, was confident the new scheme will be as effective as it's been on the Continent. :(

Mr Pollock said: "The scrappage scheme will bring incremental business to the market - and we're already seeing that. :)

Wow, 11 weeks is a long time, mine was originally 5 and i was shocked. A few years ago when I got my new Polo it only took a week. But then with the demand for the blue/blacks this year its understandable. 2 weeks to go!

I looked at the Polo and fox. On saturday the Polo was 12-14 Weeks and they were unable to confirm if they could get a fox before the 16 Week limit. Not too sure if the dealer was pushing me towards a Polo but he said it takes 12 Weeks for the Fox to arrive from Brazil and that is if the ferry was at the port and it's not at the mo.

I would advise against buying an aygo.

2 major reasons for me

1) My aygo leaks badly into the boot and mr.T hasn't fixed it in 3 attempts so far (the car stinks of damp yet they will not replace my mats as they are not covered by warranty  )

2) The car is not powerful enough, yes it is tagged as a city car but you'd expect it to handle 70 up a small motorway incline?

On the numerous times I've been given a courtesy car (that i've had to pay for!) for the leaking they've given me a yaris 1.0. Excellent car and it does not suffer from either of the above! Real build quality and for me the real toyota base model! I'd go for it instead!

Sorry to hear about your Aygo leaking, but I can assure everyone that my Aygo(Jan 2008) sits outside in all weather and has never leaked.

Also,I don't understand how you think it is not powerful enough.Did you not test drive one to make sure it met with your requirements? Are you sure you are not driving around with a boot full of water?

I find the power of my Aygo just fine.I can keep up,or go faster than most normal traffic without any difficulty,so I don't know what you mean when you say these cars are underpowered.

Ullevi - I really do not understand how you think it is powerful enough? I am actually perplexed by the notion you think this car has not got power issues?? Do you weigh like 10kgs or something?

And no I didn't realise it had trouble with inclines at 70mph......since during the test drive I was on flat roads with 60mph limits....not a motorway??? You maybe wondering about this motorway incline i'm so fond of mentioning...well I drive from my student accommo to home every weekend and that involves taking the M2 from Belfast. There's a 1/2 mile stretch of road that has a modest incline and my car struggles to do 60mph - FACT!

Just to break that down, 60mph is 14.3% slower than the speed limit allowed (70mph). Hence in this circumstance (which I come across once a week) my aygo is not powerful enough - understand now?

I know this incline well, at least the !Removed! roadworks seem to be finished! Didnt think the Aygo would have a problem here, ill be finding out in a few weeks :(.

Ordered my Aygo Black a couple of weeks ago and arranged to collect it tomorrow.I booked a day off work but the sales guy phoned today to say Toyota have instructed them NOT to release any cars under the scrappage scheme.

What an absolute shambles,I feel like calling the whole thing off.I was really looking forward to getting a new Aygo.

Yet more fuel to the fire with the Government!

Which gear are you using when going up that incline?

Posted

I go into the incline at 70-80mph in 5th. As I start to slow I sometimes drop a gear but this just ceases the deceleration, and thats with my foot to the floor. Although I try not to do that in case I'm damaging the engine - I don't have a rev gauge though.

Just a note; Darth Sabre may be able to agree that this modest incline is surely that...a modest incline and like I said in earlier posts the 4cylinder yaris manages the same incline with ease. Perhaps my aygo's engine is underpowered but it's been this lackluster since week 1!
