Gen 7 T-sport , What Does Your Logbook Say ?

Hi , This is my first post so hi to all .

Been after a celica for a while now and finally took the plunge and bought one off eBay . Havent even seen it or collected it yet (i know , stupid eh!) But when i tried to get an insurance quote the insurer didnt recognise the reg . I text the owner and said what does it say on the logbook and he replied "it just says celica " which is what it came back as when i done that vehicle text check . Doesn't state vvtli or t-sport altho it has the t-sport Badge on the back .

He did revise the eBay listing saying someone contacted him to say that it was not a t-sport but he did not know for sure . He appears to be a trader selling a lot of cars and has good feedback .

Also the engine cover has vvtl-i on it as well .

Anyone else just have "celica " as the description on the logbook ?

Getting a bit worried now so any help would be appreciated .

Do you have a link to the eBay listing we could look at?

I don't see why anybody would go as far as changing the Engine cover to try and sell the car (though you never know...)

If you really want to know, Ask him to take it out for a drive and when the cars warm ask him to tell you at what RPM the real power kicked in.

heres the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260406815167 , obviously the auction has ended now but it should still show up .

He seems like quite a genuine guy and i asked him about the lift . he tried it out for me and said it works great , also said the rev counter goes up to 9k .

Thanks for your help

Ross

P.s heres some pics incase the eBay thing didnt work out

looking at the engine pic its looks like a vvtl-i lump. has the right inlet mani and runners. also the exhaust looks right to me. so, id say it is a t sport. however, im happy to be proven wrong as my celica knowledge is not great.

did they do a facelift celica at the same time they did the corolla?

Unsure if it was at the same time but I think they did do a Facelift.

Does look like a VVTL-i to me also. So gingers crossed for you when you go to pick it up, though those brake discs look a tad stuffed. :P

Could just be surface crap though, can't see properly on pics :D

Gingers crossed?? Must be some weird Runcorn term... :P

Back on topic tho... i think the F/L Celica was around 2002 (52) reg??

The engine bay pics do make it look like a T Sport but it's hard to tell really as there wasn't much difference looks wise between the T Sport & non T Sport Celia's

It's not a T Sport. It's a 190 with a rear Spoiler fitted. Very few T Sport's have a Sunroof fitted and all have two tone Grey Leather Seats.

hmmm so the celica came in both t-sport trim and non t-sport trim which both have the 2zz? thats actually pretty cool. either way both have a great engine and will have good performance.

I'd most likely say it's not a T sport. I believe they did do a T sport model just before the facelift change around 2003. But looking at yours and the wheels on it I'd say it's a model they did called the VVTi 190. I'm sure the T sport wasn't introduced that early.

Think you could be right there.

I think until the Facelift came in they just called it the 190, though it was still the VVTL-i engine.

But hey... Long as you got the Lift! :P

No, it is possible to buy a 51 plate TS...but that isn't one of them :)

ok, so if its a vvtl-i 190, and there is a different model of the t-sport..... is there a performance difference between the 2? or is it simply cosmetic changes and interior differences? :)

Performance should be identical, although with smaller Wheels (16's as opposed to 17's) and no rear Spoiler the 190 might be a tiny bit quicker. IIRC, the 0-60 is 7.2 seconds :)

Thought i best chip in seems as i started all this ! Picked it up last night and so far very happy with it . A lot of paperwork that came with it says vvtli 190 so i'm guessing someone just stuck the T sport Badge on the back .

Took me about 30 minutes of driving before i gave into temptation and floored it , lift put a big grin on my face so did slamming it into a corner !

Come from a seat leon cupra which has a lot more low down grunt and the instant power still beats the celica , but i'm happy !

Only problem i have noticed so far is a rattling when letting of the throttle , maybe a heatshield or something like that ?

cheers for your help guys

Yea but, Cupra = Turbo.

Yota = No Turbo, No Turbo FTW! It's highly amusing when peoples faces drop when you say "1.8 N/A.... Just thrashed your 2.5 V6, or your 2.0 Turbo..."

Good times.

Yeah totally agree with you , the celica is impressive for a N/A engine , I have no doubt if driven properly would beat the cupra hands down anyway. I was just stating that in the cupra you can be cruising along at 30 in 3rd floor it and before you know it your doing 90 . Where as the celica is a little more hard work !

Yea, It does take a good thrashing to get where it's going, but the noise out of them when you have some sort of Induction is awesome.
