Seat Heads

Hi guz

Was just wondering whether the seat heads both at the front and the back are meant to go up on their own. Aren't you supposed to push the button for them to do this?? its becoming really annoying as they keep moving further and further up everytime i drive! Theyve become very flimsy lately!

Appreciate any comments

Hey ABZ!

I keep my front ones so that the metal "legs" of the headrests are totally inside the seat. Same with the rear one at the center. They haven't been moving anywhere. The rear ones at both sides are adjusted to 50% position so that they're pulled out to the stopper mark. They haven't been moving neither.

I think that you have your headrests set between 0-50% or 50-100%, and that could be why they are moving. Try to adjust them not between those positions but in those exact positions. Fully inside the seat or 50% out.

I don't know can it be caused by the thing that you haven't adjusted them to those exact positions but try one thing to see will it improve the situation:

Pull one of the headrests totally out, you will see in the middle of it's one leg (the one at the same side you have the button) a little hook. This is to lock the headrest in 50% position.

Then put the headrest back and push it all the way down pressing the button at the same time. This is the first position (0%). Then pull the headrest up without pressing the button. The headrest will make *click* and get locked when you've pulled it out to 50%. This is the second position.

(If you have your headrest removed you can set it straight to 50% position by not pressing the button, the leg won't go to 0% position as it will get stopped by the unpressed button at 50%).

As I understand there are no other positions for the headrests that those two, and I think it's very possible that if you'll leave them in some other position they will be moving as nothing is holding them. Try these two for some time and then tell us what happened :)

Best regards, Alex

The idea of having headrests is that they save your life. The position should be adjusted that when you drive back of your head is almost touching headrest (so in case of rear impact you do not brake your neck). My are set ok and I don't have a problem with them moving. In my "old" VW they had cuts on the metal rod so you could adjust them very precisely.
