New Radiator

I have a 2004 2ltr Avensis (54 plate)and for a few months have noticed that the coolant level in the expansion tank has been dropping, checked the radiator and noticed the core is leaking were it joins the side of the radiator. Another problem has been coolant being forced out of the expansion tank, this has occurred after a top end rebuild. Since new its only had Toyota coolant used in it.

Benn quoted over £340 to fix, before I have it done has any body got any ideas why a 4 year old car with 38000 on the clock should suddenly have a corroded radiator.

With the amount of work that has been done one this car since I have had it I don't think that my next car will be another Toyota, we have Pajero thats 15 years old and the radiator on that still looks like new.

coolant being forced out of the expansion tank would normally point to a head or head gasket problem, you said the top end was overhauled, why and who done the work

The work was done by a Toyota main agent after numerous attempts to get the engine to idle with out stalling, they said it needed work doing on the head, they replaced injectors at same time, that was done at 32000 miles. The engine revs would drop to just below 600 at idle then nearly stall then the engine would surge up to about 1200 revs before dropping back down to 600.

The work was all done under warranty.

hello mate

yes it looks strange. may be that's the works defect. mine serves during 6 years without problems with leaks.

has the engine been overheated? it looks like this. besides - check with cooling pump. if your car still covered by warranty then arrise the claim to substitute this heat exchanger. cheers/Igor

To darkt,

Discounting possible head problems ? Let us assume the fault is with leaking radiator. Google company called Sercks Marston, they supply to the motor trade ( nationwide company ) & general public if your nice to them. They specialize in radiator repairs & supllying of new units at considerable less money than Toyota main agents. Might be worth your while contacting your local agent.

I do concur with s m smith as to possible head problems.

Regards, Beagh.
