Hi,

I have just bought a 2004 Avensis 1.8 T3S with a semi auto gear box and am concerned about the engine idle speed. When cold it runs ay 1800 rpm and when warmed up it is still around 1000 rpm. Dealer told this was normal for an auto box any offer advice on this. the car had one owner and only done 16000 mile and has full service history

thanks Brockle.

I have a 2.0L 2007 semi-auto and it is normal for a cold petrol engine to have high revs when cold due to rich fuel mixture and partial throttle. When warmed up idle speed should be around 900 revs. Fitter.

hello mate

the engine receives signal from a temp sensor and never mind what gear box is joined to the engine.

that is why your idle revs are OK as mine -- just relax :) it is normal.

good luck/Igor

Hi Brockle,

You may be able to solve a small mystery!...I recently bought a 05 1.8T3x auto and am very pleased with it.

It says semi auto on the V5,however its a standard torque convertor auto as far as I know?

How about yours??

Cheers,

Phil.

The auto idle speed is marginally different on the Autos (+100rpm over the manual from memory) due to the lack of mass of the flywheel. ECU program is a little different hence controls to slightly different level

Phil,

It is the same on my V5. I can change gears manually, (no clutch) with the gear leaver. I go from P (Park) R (reverse) N (neutral) D (drive, Full automatic) I then have a further option Semi automatic where I can up and down through the gears manually. This allows me to use the engine as a brake, drop down a gear to accelarate when over taking. As far as 'standard torque convertor auto' gear boxes are bit of mystery to me. The sales who took me for

out for test drive explained the 'Semi Auto' function and showed how to use it. It should be covered in the maunal that came with your car. Sorry if that was no help.

Take care.

Ian Brockle
