Yes it has only 126bhp and that works out at only 91bhp per tonn making it rubbish in built up areas. This is partly because you can not join busy roundabouts as quickly as a petrol car because you have to rev the turbo before lifting the clutch or wait for the painfully slower terbo lag to kick in. However after a while you can join just as quickly but sometimes I still get taken out by surprise.

However if you drive it within the narrow torque range on high speed roads it is very powerful (300nm of torque) and i love it. Given a rolling start and a terbo a warm up I think it even keeps up with my brothers Golf 140bhp GT (faster in gear acceleration for sure) and can keep up with slower Audi TT's especially uphill. Body role is minimal though visibility is poor. Wife gets 42mpg to 45mpg I get between 46-53mpg and I am the one drive it the hardest but I am also the one who uses the torque more! Other people would say the Ford TDI is quicker and has a bigger boot and th Golf GT is better looking (but much more expensive).

Auris boot has an annoying plastic lip that makes fitting the large buggy a pain. The boot is only average due to the passengers having arguably too much room but the seats fold down flat. Oh and the passengers have a nice flat floor. Practical yes but I think your heart would still prefer the Auris 180's or Ford Mondeo 2.2TDi both with over 170bhp.

I have the 2 litre diesel - I have only done 950+ miles in 3 months. The engine is very useful around town and on a dual carriage way or motorway it's actually pretty good - keeps revs down and is quiet. The instruments are very clear. Good for a family. Nothing to dislike and nothing gone wrong - what's not to like?

Kind regards
