Piston Slap/little Ends?

hi, i recently bought a starlet gt turbo, the engine is making some odd noises when not under load, its a tapping noise and only occcours when throttle is balanced a so no load on the engine, it sounds like its coming from the top of the engine (i dont think its big ends). iv checked the tappets and cams and all seems fine. can anyone help??!!

If its a tapping type noise then its a common thing on them.

Nothing really to worry about unless its very loud, does it quiten down when its warmed up??

iv just stripped and re built the engine, it was the big ends. runs sweet as a nut now. weird how noises travel because i could have sworn it was coming from the top end! cheers

Hi mate I have this exact same noise only happening at the same point but i have replaced the big ends, did you replace the mains as i think this is what it is?

i didnt replace the mains no, i checked them and they were all within spec. were your big ends worn at all? if so did you measure the crank to check it wasnt worn? it could be the mains, little ends, or abit of piston slap. but only usually little ends or piston slap on high milage cars.?

Everything measured up fine mate and mine has only done 55000 miles so i think i'll do the mains anyway just to see if that will cure it.
