Thought i'd drop in and say hi, just signed the paperwork on my new MR2 'Red' (which i pick up on Thursday :D ) and wanted to say thanks to this site for all the hints and tips i've read while looking for one.

This is the first rear wheel car i've had and other than not booting the throttle around corners, was just wondering if anyone had any tips about how to treat them while im getting used to it.

All in all im looking forward to getting the keys, seeing all the pictures on here just made me want one more in the end

Congratulations and welcome to the world of the permagrin. Post some pics up when you get the chance.

Treat it the same as any car untill you get used to it.. that is, take it easy.. once you are used to it keep taking it easy, untill you are truely used to it, with it being your first MR RWD you don't want it to bite you.. snap understter can be painfull on the pocket.

Remember to check your oil religiously.. EVERY single week without fail it can be the first sign of problems.

Be careful in the damp, lol. It could rob you of your NCB! Or worse, cold hard cash.

Seriously though, just enjoy it, get the roof down whenever possible and let it relax you, get some good shades too, the kind you cannot see through without sunlight, otherwise you'll develop some creases round the eyes squinting and frowning in the sun.

Yep,especially slightly damp, greasy road conditions and giving it a little too much right foot action coming out of corners-good recipe for some scary oversteer! In the real wet I find it is not such a problem as you know to take it easy,it is just those slightly damp conditions when you easily can become a little overconfident.

Try not to accelerate too much until you're out of a corner and the front wheels are pointing straight again. You get good at judging the right speed to take corners in in this car as it is best to avoid large mid-corner corrections if possible.

Tyres and tyre pressures are very important in this car from a safety point of view.

Enjoy!!!

That's the beauty of this car: you CAN boot the throttle around corners as long as you are travelling at an appropriate speed when entering the corner.

What is likely to upset the handling, resulting in an oversteer incident, is lifting off the gas while cornering or accelerating heavily within the corner(esp in damp/wet conditions).

Once you get confident with the handling, you'll be amazed how fast you can take corners.

Just take your time to get used to the car.

Well i didnt get chance to post last night when i picked her up, but WOW what a car. Never been this impressed with a drive and i definately know why you said Permagrin ;)

My face was almost cramped because of smilling all night ha.

Couldn't be happier with it, just woke up early to take her out again ;)

This is exactly right for me. In properly wet conditions the car is fine. Whether its because I drive slower or what I don't know (probably because u can feel the water), but in damp/greasy conditions it is easy to over do it as its not wet so much, just slightly lubricated!

Nice choice and welcome to the club

If anybody likes a lot of tail out action they should join me on next years Corfu trip, the roads always have a greasy surface because of the thousands of olive trees so slippy slidey fun is always on tap but don't even try it when it rains :shutit:

As long as it isn't raining is top down weather.. if it's cold.. put the heater up full, toastie ;)

If your planning on any purchases for the car.. might I suggest Ibuprofen or Volterol (muscle relaxant) can help with the face ache (thats your sore cheeks.. not your girlfriend  :))

Actually.. one of the best things you can buy.. and I highly recommend them.. are a pair of Mongo Wind deflectors for the doors, with the roof up and the windows open a little bit, the wind tends to slap you on the face....

...these prevent it from happening.

I have the large version.. which I have had some graphics of my own put on....
