Hi people

I recently bought a 1995 Rev 3 UK mr2. The CD player doesnt work, and i would like to replace it. It currently has 1 seperate tape player and beneath it a cd player. Does anyone know what kind of configuration it has? Is it a double-din? What spec MP3 player would i be looking for if i wanted to simply remove the 2 units and replace them with 1 big one?

Many thanks

A normal headunit is single DIN. The MR2 is double.

You could go for a single, and then use the spare for gauges etc.

I'd suggest spending a bit and getting a nice double din DVD player, touchscreen jobbie.

Alpine are my brand of choice. Something like :

I had a few stereos in my MR2s, stock single DIN, JDM stock double DIN, JDM Kenwood double DIN, JDM Alpine double DIN, JDM Alpine 2x single DIN.

I'd stay away from the JDM stuff, they use different radio frequencies and usually you can only pick up Radio4 (you can get it to work for the UK with a gadget, but it's a naff way of doing it). JDM also seem to be lots of flashy lights and sound tinny. I went that route twice though as I wanted a MiniDisk and CD player, which wasn't an option in the UK.

The 505 is nice... USB, full speed iPod with artwork and built in nav dock too!

I've an IVA W202R (Karma Supra fitted it - I bought the Hilux off him).

One for £350 (OR BEST OFFER) on eBay: He said in the Questions he'd do £330 + delivery.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alpine-IVA-W202R-Dou...%3A1%7C294%3A50

(I've no assosiation with the seller, he could be a scamming 2@ for all I know!!)

So something like that is available at your price range ish. Mine does Radio/DVD (CD, mp3 wma etc.)/iPod .. I've got a TV tuner too. Also does CD changer, bluetooth (songs from my Nokia, and phonecalls) And I've also got a cheap camera wired up so I can do reversing stuff.

I have this set up in mine.

dash1.jpg

Motorised Screen in the top din and an MP3 player in the bottom.

Got the screen off eBay for just £80 and the MP3 player is Kenwood.

Thats looks very smart! Any chance of the link on eBay for that screen? Its pretty easy to source a good MP3 player but £80 sounds good for a screen!

Cheers

With 3 hours left.

All the buy it now prices are around £100 mark.

If you are going to buy a head unit as well as a screen it might be advantagious to get one that plays DVD's as I have to use an Xbox. My Nokia N95 also plugs into the screen which is smart.

I always think the pop out motorised screens look really naff...

Like a halfords/max power wet dream. The more "factory" double DIN fixed screens are much nicer, more userfriendly too, and you can even use your heater/aircon at the same time! But thats why I spend over £500 for the one in Bibb's Hilux (including the bluetooth handsfree which is a great add on)

Screens aside I fitted an Alpine Ida X100 with a MP3 CD changer and bluetooth handsfree to my other half's Rev 3 MR2.

She seems happy with it, it sounds fairly good on the factory premium sound system, takes 6 CDs loaded with MP3s, will take a USB stick loaded with MP3s (handy) and will take an iPod, display album artwork etc. I use the bluetooth audio streaming too when I drive it, so I can skip tracks etc from my phone in my pocket, as well as make and recieve calls obviously.

I'd never have bought an iPod if it wasn't for using it in the car... the headphones are still in the box lol.
