Yaris Car Radio...

For some bizarre reason my yars has a lot of difficulty finding radio stations. With the original aerial I was only able to pick up radio stations like BBC 2 and Radio 4 both of which I'm not that fond of. I changed it to a snazzy little WMC black radio and it doesn't seem to pick up anything at all when I try and search for a station using the automanic function.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Do I buy a radio signal booster or something and if that is the case where do I get one?

Cheers.

Erk... sounds like the aerial isn't even connected!

How's the aerial socket looking? My one's so corroded I doubt I could remove it without some twisty plier work, but still has pretty good reception so presumably the actual aerial contacts haven't been affected. It may be the contacts are corroded enough that it's preventing the aerial from talking to the headunit?

Aerials aren’t attached when the car arrives at the dealers. There is a very high chance that water would be in the connection where the aerial screws into which affect the signal? Undo the aerial and spray a bit of WD40 between the threads and see if that helps, and manually tune in to the stations if you know the frequencies.

Have you tried to re-fit the old one to see if it is just the new ariel being tummy-rubbish?

I would start from there and perhaps lend another one from a mate or try the small one in his/her car to see if it works there too. Then start worrying about your system.

The advise about manual tuning is good, too... I sometimes have trouble getting stations the way you mentioned, goes right past some and stops on horrid Kiss fm style stations! :( (Cant see an icon with finger in mouth, vomit coming out)!

I've tried both aerials, the new savvy one and the long standard Yaris one (which is just asking to be bent by some Chav) and neither seem to be working. I'll try spraying some WD4O in but if that doesn't work, what next?

If neither work, I would suspect the unit. Does the cd/tape player still operate? this will tell you if the amp has gone or fuse, etc. If it IS working, the tuner could be duff!

The CD and tape works just fine. A six cd changer was fitted when it was bought by its first owners. What do I do if the tuner is duff?
