Hi all. I need some advice on my celica which is a gen 7, year 2000, VVTL-i 190 BHP import from Japan. The speedo is in KMPH and only goes upto 180 KMPH (112 MPH) but I know that the top speed for this car is greater.

I've heard that in Japan, some cars are limited to 180 KMPH due to road regulations. My question is how do I know if my car is limited (obviously without driving more than 112 MPH!) and how can I get the limiter removed?

Are there any dash/speedo conversions that I can buy to show MPH instead?

All JDM cars are limited.

If it's not been tweaked, it will still be limited.

Look for a "speed limit defencer" .. made by HKS and is the easiest/cheapest method.

If you are going down the modded route. An Apexi RSM / Neo will do the same job and give you a few gauges/dials .. or even more hardcore would be a full aftermarket ECU.

You're right mate... in japan cars are limited to 180km/ph... so probably it is restricted... i'm sure toyota can alter that limiter and then you can take it into a track day with long strecth to see how it goes... UK 140vvti can go upto 127mph according to the manual... and if i'm right... yours can go nearly 140mph...

I freaked out when the 3SGTE cut out at what I reckon was 112 - thought I'd done something nasty. Now the RAV has an Apexi Power FC and hybrid turbo, I wonder what happens when the speedo gets to 120mph....? Goes round twice like the scales in my bathroom when I stand on them!!
