2008 Yaris Door Lock

Hi all, I've just bought a 2008 Yaris TR Diesel, very impressed with the car but have a question for you guys...

Is there any way of setting the car to automatically lock the doors when I drive off? My old megane used to have this feature, was kind of hoping this Yaris would have it?

any info on this subject would be appreciated.

thanks

There is that feature on the T Sport but it’s a dealer that does it. To be honest once you have pushed the button a few times to lock it, it soon becomes second nature. Check with Mr T

My Sr has this feature, press the button and it locks the doors. I personally have never used it but the wife allways does, esp late at night and early morning for her work shifts.

Suppose if it makes you feel safer, it's allways a good thing! ;)

All Yaris's have this feature, but the OP was wanting to know if it could be set up to activate automatically as the car moves off (A La RENAULT).

I used to like that feature on my Renault

My dad's BMW used to do that, before I got annoyed at it and switched it off. I find it very irritating if you're trying to get in after getting picked up from a party or something, especially when people don't know how to unlock the doors manually!

Suppose there are safety benefits, but whats wrong with not stopping? :P

I saw a program on tv where there was a Merc in RSA fitted with a flamethrower under the car to "prevent" can jacking. Got to be the best deterrant i've ever seen!

perhaps these flamethrowers could be introduced to the yaris as standard... seems like a sensible idea to me! :D

thanks for the replies, its a real shame because its such a simple feature, I cant imagine it would cost Toyota too much to put it on as standard or give the owner the option. I'll try the dealers and post back if there is a simple way of doing it...

Hi, I had the same issue on my 2008 Corolla. it doesn't have the feature. Even the top of the range.

I fitted an accessory on my car that will lock the doors at vehicle speed of 15km/h. It also monitors if the doors have been opened/closed then re-locks. It works on the Yaris as well. Simple installation.

have to say I have no issues with just pressing the button which is a very aesthetically well placed eer place. :E

It's second nature now. I always use it when driving in the City or at night. And I have had people trying to get in the car.... :\

I'm not entirely sure I'd trust a renault to automatically lock me in... can't think why? :P

I have always thought it best not to lock the doors whilst in the car in an event of an accident when someone has to get in to save you.

Agreed. I think it's a pain in the you know what too! Plus it will lead to premature wear on the locks. But if the OP is desperate for the feature and Toyota don't suppy it then any half decent alarm company (e.g. Toad) could install it for you - wouldn't be that expensive.

I guess its its different if you're in South Africa where you would feel that you're more likely to get hi-jacked and murdered than be involved in a serious life threatening accident. On a Corolla, if the accident is severe enough, the airbag ECU instantly unlocks the doors on impact. Since the Corolla already had a factory alarm, it was worth spending $25.
