Mpg

How do you know what your MPG is in the Yaris? The manual is confusing. It says in the manual set it to Trip A but mine shows 110 miles, my car has only done 110 miles is that why?

If you want to get an accurate MPG this is a way how to do it.

Fill your car up to the brim. Reset the trip. Drive around for a few days or weeks.

Go back and refill your car to the brim.

Note the Litres you have put in on the second fill and note the miles on the trip.

All you have to do now is divide the miles you have done with the amount of gallons you have put in on the second fill up.

To covert the litres into gallons divide the litres by 4.546 = Gallons

Example:

You have done 41.7 miles and used 20.85 litres on the second fill up.

20.85 (litres) ÷ 4.546 = 4.5864 Gallons

41.7 (miles) ÷ 4.5864 Gallons = 9 (mpg)

Easy!

There is a trip 'a' and a trip 'b' display.

The idea is that if you share the car with someone they can record their miles on (say) a and you can use b - but they have nothing to do with mpg - there just tripometers to record journey milegae.

Press once for trip a, again for trip b and a third press returns the display to the odemoeter (total mileage). Your trip says 110 the same as the car because it hasn't been reset since new - so you've done 110 and the trip shows 110. To reset any trip ('a' or 'B') just get that on the display and press and hold the button for 2 seconds.

MPG should be displayed through your radio / CD unit screen - press trip button on the radio / CD (I think - I'm doing this from memory) to scroll through the various screens of display - average speed, MPG etc.

Wrong! both trip A and B get updated at the same time, they are just 2 tempory counters

Trip A and trip B don’t get updated at the same time ;)

I use one for journeys and one between each refuel.

I zero trip A each day and trip B stays the same till the next tank full when I zero that one

They def run independantly - my wife is 'a' and I'm 'b' - try resetting just 1 - you will notice that the unreset one stays where it was.

BTW - unreset - is that a real word

weird??? both of my trips run all the time...no matter which one it's on...ie they arn't independant? what's going in here! lol

To work out the MPG using the above calculation..it's best to cover a few hundred miles...so you get a better average over various conditions driving routes etc...but we all knew that anyway!

Yeah guys they DO run together but they are independent - every mile you cover will put 1 mile on trip a and 1 on trip b - what I was trying to say is that you can reset them independently - so -

Reset both and they read 0

Do 50 miles and they both read 50

Reset just trip ‘a’ and it goes to 0 but ‘b’ stays at 50

Cover 20 more miles and ‘a’ will say 20 and ‘b’ 70

I'm lost...

Question: To paraphrase it "How do you display the mpg in a diesel Yaris?"

Answer: You have to work it out as described by The-voice-of-reason as for some reason you don't get the mpg-meters on the D4-D.

Phew!

Cheers,

A

the difference betweem trip 'a' and 'b' is nothing apart from the fact one is called 'a' and the other is called 'b'. They both update at the same time when you complete a mile or 2 or 3 or 4 whetever. in the manual it does say it's to calculate fuel consumption - don't know how can't be a***d to work it out. i just use the trip button on the stereo.

so there you go, you can brag to your mates that all us yaris owners have 2 tripometers
