T4 2.0 Vvt 04 Plate

Just about to took at a low mileage T4 2.0 VVT 04 plate Avensis, what should it have more than the T3. Looking at what specs I can find it should have a "turn by turn' navigation system? What this compared to a normal TomTom GPS system, never heard of it before so could do with some info. Have seen on here talk of DVD/CD's required , does this need them and how do I check to see if ist all working?

Any other advice what to look out for and what you think of the 2.0 instead of the 1.8 would be helpful, thanks

The 2.0 litre avensis is vastly superior to the 1.8. The engine is powerful and free revving, not like the gutless 1.8. The steering is also much better - you actually have some control around bends (and no, I don't race around like a 17 year old in a Saxo!).

Thanks, just had a drive and it seems OK, just a couple of concerns, first is the length, its half a metre longer than my current Astra! (can't do anythiong about that though!) the second is when I looked under the bonnet at the engine the engine cover said D4D? I would have thought it would have said VVT etc. Doh! Just presumed it was the VVT, it didn't say it was a diesel in the advert and I think the salesman presumed I knew... double doh!

Is the 2.0 D4D diesel any good and is the 1.8 version that bad as there does not seem to be many 2.0VVT ones around as far as I can see. I thought I should have had more acceleration when I kickd down, but saying that it did seem to go OK once up to speed.

It has had had what seems to be the rear pasenger door changed at some point, you cout tell by the black window frame, the front was jet black the rear was a lighter black.

My engine cover also says "D4D" even though it's a 2 litre petrol - no idea why!

The engine really noticibly kicks in around three and a half thousand revs - below that (which is where I seem to spend most of my time) it's a lovely pussycat.

No idea about the diesels - the only ones I've ever driven are Mondeo hire cars. They had a lot of torque and could cover 400 miles on half a tank - don't mean to sound like an advert for Ford......I'm sure they're terrible now!!

Thanks for that, it may not be have been so much of a doh! momnet after all then. I'll double check with them tomorrow. Was worried about the length of the car but looking around can't seem to find any better or comparable options for the money and mileage (its only got 29,000 on the clock!).

Bought mine two and a half years ago with 16500 miles on the clock and now have about 50000. It's never missed a beat. At the time I also tested a Celica and a Hyundai Coupe (just got rid of a Spitfire which I used in summer and was starting to miss it already). There was no real difference in performance between the coupes and the avensis, so I went for 'sensible' but have not regretted it at all. Just wish the aircon did more than blow warm air.
