Clutch and Brakes share the same reservoir. Use Brake fluid only in this.

No offence but, if you dont know this please dont try and mess with anything.

Always best to find someone to look at it for you and explain where/what everything is - could save alot of trouble if you get something wrong.

Mart.

hello

i deem to be not mistaken to state you have one hydr system both for brakes and clutch. as to power steering -- you have an el power steering.

Thanks for your replies guys.

It was the clutch fluid, not the gearbox fluid I was enquiring about.

My Clutch is pretty hard. It possibly needs replacing soon, but wanted to check which fluid is used for the clutch before anything else needs checking... slave cylinder, etc.

By the way, does the clutch pedal go reasonably hard when the clutch plate is on its way out, or is it most likely to be the slave/master cylinder?

many thanks Guys.

Hi, no offence taken Mart.

I like to think im pretty competant with vehicles as I deal with them on a daily basis and am able to do my own servicing and other little bits and bats when required (weather permitting), hence why I wanted to know which reservoir the clutch hydrolics uses so i could check it as my clutch pedal is very hard at the mo. Its bearable, but just about. And condsidering the car is used as a taxi on the weekends, it can be a bit of pain having a hard clutch to depress :-)

Automatic transmission fluid is the same as the power steering fluid. You can use this for power steering. DO NOT put this in the brake/clutch reservoir. They both share the same fluid. Make sure only Dot 4 brake fluid is put into this and nothing else.

Highly unlikely to be anything to do with the hydraulic fluid. More likely to be a problem with the clutch itself or with the operating mechanism.

I've just had the 2nd new clutch and DMF fitted at 143k. The first replacement was 15weeks after buying it at 53k. This time it become very hard to disengage the clutch long before it started to slip. I had widely varying quotes, up to £1400. I bought an Aysin clutch, dual mass flywheel, and release bearing on E-bay for £490 inc P&P. I had it fitted at a small local garage for £115
