Hi all,

I am just trying to get info before buying a LHD 4-runner or a RHD Hilux Surf.

Does the 4-runner 3rd generation (from 1996) have a center differential??

Does the Hilux Surf 3rd generation (from 1996) exist with LHD and european conformity?

Thank you for info.

Pretty sure that they all have a centre diff (3rd gen), but not sure about the LHD bit.

Thanks for answer.

I looked on wikipedia "4-runner" and don't really know how I have to understant this sentence.

"Significant changes from the second generation models include a larger body on a longer wheelbase, increased interior space, increased cargo space, twin airbags, ABS, lift-up tailgate, coil-sprung suspension all round, rack and pinion steering, and aerodynamic contour designed glass headlights. Additionally, Hilux Surf versions immediately moved to 16-inch wheels and gained a center differential, enabling the use of four wheel drive on hard surfaces without complication for the first time."

Only Surf 3rd gen got it?

The 3rd gen came out in 96 and was built on the same chassis as the Colorado/prado, and this had the centre diff.

I have seen LHD 2nd gen in Europe but never a 3rd gen, and they were badged as 4 runners.

Hi Andy,

I finally bought a 4 Runner '99 3L TD.

But this is not a european car, not even a japanese nor american....

LHD, 4 Runner, American lights and all the rest. but 3.0L TD which were never made for US.

I still don't know if I have a central diff.

Is it anything I can check to be sure? (As I'm not that good in mechanical stuff)

Thanks!!

Thanks a lot Andy.

This is not what I have, so it means no center diff...

I've to be either in H2 or down to H4.
