Posted this earlier, no replies, and cant understand how to make sure its been seen, so posting it again in hope of help! Cheers.

Recently bought a Hiace for pulling stuff, cars, small tractors etc. since getting it, it seems really down in power without anything behind it. Its had service, as in oil and filter change, fuel filter, air filter all which looked as if they had not been changed since new, but its still dead as a door nail, there is only around 135k miles on it and timing belt not done long.

Also seems to be a bit of oil in the inlet manifold, does this sound right.

Any suggestions are very very welcome!!!

has it been on a diag machine? turdo diesels occasionally suffer split boost pipes.

It just straight diesel, not turbo diesel, I know its not going to be a rocket or anything, but it should at least go! Thanks.

abit of oil in the intake is normal, sounds like your diesel pump timing is out to be honest, who fitted the timing belt?

Hmmm yep as said, pump could be out.

My old car was a heavily modded Derv. The pump belt was out 1 tooth and it completely cooked the performance. Is it possible when (if) it was changed it slipped at all?

Had checked the cable already, not that either, any idea is there any easy way to check the timing?

sorry pal, Im only familiar with the Rover L series Diesel engine (tuned by my fair hand), and that was Electronically Injected, Turbo'd and IC.

On that the usual things for power drops were:-

Miss timed Fuel Pump.

Split Boost Hoses (Not on yours).

Falty MAF.

Broken MAP Sensor.

Poor Fuel - Debris from running tank to complete empty.

Clogged Fuel Filter.

Slack Throttle Cable.

Faulty TPS.

Crank Sensor.

Clogged Inlet Mani.

Rubbish Original Filter.

How long have you had it? And has its ever had something Like 60k boost run through it de de-soot? Deisels are filthy burners and the ports etc can get heavily sooted reducing performance big time.

Is it a mechanical pump? ie. not ecu governed?! If so theres probably a 'max fuel' screw somewhere, might be worth seeing what the results are of attempting to increase the fuel a half turn or so.

Then theres also EGR valves... hmmm theyre fun! lol. great for fuel efficiency, but they can get stuck open/closed if heavilly sooted.

Edit:- Forgot to mention oil in the inlet mani on a diesel sounds about normal ;)
