Hiya all

Looking for some pointers before I start poking around. My 2.0l 05 D4D Avensis runs great, but with the recent hot weather I pressed in the a/c button for some lovely cool air, but was sadly disappointed. The green indicator came on to show the a/c was on but the air continued to blow warm. The engine load did not increase to idicate that the compressor had started working, so I suspect an electrical fault. Fairly good around engines and good knowlege of a/c sytems so any pointers of where to look or what to look at will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance :(

Ken

hi KEN

firstly open the bonnet and keep the A/C in ON position that is dfeinitely indicated on thhe central control panel.

have the temp andjusted on even +17C. AFter that touch both delivery and suction tubes joined to an A/C compressor in order to evaluate both themps , as follows:

- delivery tube must be hot;

- suction one must be cooled with condensate (in hot weather temp), but it musts be sharply cool.

In case either tube temp is almost the same -- it means the compressor either does not work (leaks or so ) or the clutch is not ON due to el control fault.

CHesk and revert

Cheers/Igor

Cheers Igor,

Can confirm that the compressor is not working as the suction and discharge manifolds at the same temperature.

Sorry for late reply but started raining and even had some hail stones here. Will get it in the garage tomorrow and have a good look around. I Reckon the clutch is not engaging

Have the gas level checked. If it's low the compressor won't kick in. I had exactly the same problem recently on my 05 petrol. A re-charge cured it.

OK great !!!

you have the task with one unknown now -- both tubes have the same temp.

firstly have the clutch tested; secondly test system on refrigerant possible leaks and do not forget to check with front hheat exchanger .

check and revert with result.

good luck

Igor

hello

just a small question

how to check with gas llevel???

normally in case the system has receiiver equipped with sight glass then your point of view is correct.

but this system has not receiver with sight glass.

Temporarily bridge out the low pressure switch, if compressor kicks in then you have low refrigerant pressure and it needs a system test and recharge. DO NOT leave the switch bridged out for any longer than necessary to check compressor clutch operation.

Thanks for all the replies guys. One more question while I have got my overalls on. Where is the low pressure sensor located? Its a minefield under the bonnet.

Sorry for the late reply, not sure on yours. it should be somewhere on the pipework and will look similar to an oil pressure switch with 2 wires.

yes it must eb clear seen on either suction or disxharge tubes to compressor. sometimes this sensor is installed close to system filling connection.

Thanks for all the help. Turned out to be low on gas. Took it in £75 regassed now working perfectly.

On another note my 15 year old pajero which I have had for 8 years never been regassed, went on a family trip yesterday with 6 people and the a/c working perfectly. They certainly don't build them like they use to :D
