I have had my Verso 2.2 SR for 12 months now. In that time I have had the following issues:

1.) Odometer/trip computer etc. replaced

2.) Wheel nuts replaced as the originals rusted.

3.) All four wheel hubs treated as they were rusting.

4.) Wheel alignment problems.

5.) Uneven fitting dash consoles.

6.) Various rattles and clunks of unknown origin, mainly from the dashboard.

7.) Gearbox leaking oil requiring seal replacements.

8.) New clutch.

9.) What next it's only been a year?!

One of the main reasons for purchasing this Toyota was because of their fabled quality, durability and reliability. Have I just had a Friday afternoon car or is this REALLY what Toyota is about? The car hasn't even clocked 10000 miles yet. :angry:

I think this will be my first and last Toyota.

On the plus side the staff at the local dealership have always been very helpful and courteous.

I am sorry to hear of your issues, sadly there are always some cars with annoying problems that come out of the factory.

Typically Toyota's are very reliable and are built to a high standard, to say this will be your 1st and last amuses me as you have experience of one of millions built over the years. Their reputation wouldn't be for quality and reliability if they all had problems.

I would ask you one question, has this car let you and your family down on a wet rainy motorway and you have had to be picked up by a nice RAC or AA man? I doubt it.

So far the only thing I have had done to my Verso since new (just over 12 months ago) is the 10,000 mile service. The cover for the cubby in the centre of the dash has always looked a bit wonky but it's not major. So it sounds like you have just been unlucky.

I have owned various brands of car over the years and have to say you can get good and bad examples from any manufacturer.

The fact that Toyota ARE renown for their quality make the issues I have experienced with mine all the more annoying and unexpected.

This is the first Toyota I have owned, as I've stated, so I can only comment on the quality of that particular vehicle as representing the brand.

The Focus I owned prior to this vehicle was faultless and was only traded in for the space, practicality, design and "quality" of the Verso to look after a growing family, prior to the launch of the Kuga I might add which will be a contender to replace the Verso.

This is the interesting thing about cars, my wifes old Focus (04) 1.8 TDCI had to go because i knew the injectors were going (£1000) as well as the clutch and flywheel (£800) and it failed the 1st MOT with 54k on it due to a worn brake pipe!

Horses for courses ;)

probably been sat an an airfield for a while before puchase, as most production cars now go straight into storage after build. at least you're still covered by warranty, this should hopefully fix all the probs and shall now last for millions of years :rolleyes:

My car has 3, 4, 5 and 6. But it has never actually broke down.

I did expect better build quality though tbh.

did you ever get a solution to your wheel alignment problems?

Mines has been in twice and still isn't fixed and if anything is getting worse. eventually the dealer told me it was camber sensitivity! I have spoken to an independent suspension specialist who suggested that the car had been set up the wrong way for camber on British roads! I will let you know what the independent specialist says when he looks at the alignment setup.

I have had my verso d4d SR 3 months (2008 model)and its the worst car I have ever owned, It was the toyota demonstrator and only had 2500 miles on it when I got it.

Scored discs already replaced and scoring again!

and this morning it felt like the power steering is on its way out requiring enormous effort to turn.

My local toyota dealer "Struans" have been helpful but unable to fix my problems.

I would have kept my excellent Yaris but a growing family meant it was too small. My verso feels incredibly poorly put together and my dealer is unable to fix it so I feel stuck with a real lemon which is a shame as my Yaris was a truly brilliant car. I will be getting rid of it and not getting a Toyota next time I really feel let down by the verso. Another Japanese manufacturer next time I think.

I wonder if the quality issues are linked to the fact this model is made in Turkey and not Japan?

Just guessing, but there does seem to be a lot of problems for a Toyota.

I did actually wonder about that because the yaris I had did have a big made in France sticker on the windscreen but I couldn't find a single thing to say where my verso was made which concerned me from the outset.

I may have discovered a solution to the random pulling to the left that so many people not just verso owners are experiencing. I have yet to try it but I go this from a company called www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk

This sounds exactly like my problem and I can also now understand why no amount of tracking fixes would sort it. Its incredibly useful and enlighting information so here goes....

All new tyres have visible coloured markings forming a radial band on the tyre. Several of these markings represent destination between the manufacture and the recipient.... Cars like Lexus require specific compounds so the radial markings do indeed allow the process to become visible and act like a bar code.

But there is also important information held within those lines that most consumers and tyre centres are not aware of, in particular the position of the outer line (colour does vary).....

Depending on how the belts are positioned during construction imperfections will allow the casing and the tyre tread to 'run out'. This disparity allows the compression to steer the tyre laterally regardless of any actions taken by the driver thus generate a pull.

The manufacture measures the degree of run out and marks the severity onto the tyre by the position of the outer band, typically the colour is Red or Blue, if the colour band is central then the run out is considered 0, if the band is toward the outer edge the tyre will need a 'reactive' partner to belay any pull. So the positions are vital to you and your car.... example

Realising this problem then it's easy to conclude if the tyres are symmetrical in tread construction, if the tyres are asymmetrical or directional then the centre will need to find a suitable match with an opposite reactive lateral partner....... Their problem not yours......

So next time you buy tyres have a look for the banding and decide what match you want..... remember most centres will have no idea of your request due to misunderstanding and lack of knowledge so you need to be wise.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your Verso.

My dealer has not been able to fix the wheel alignment. It always pulls to the left. I have just got used to it.

My woes continue - it had a new clutch yesterday and today I notice that there is a "grinding" sound coming from the front suspension on full lock! I have no faith or trust in the car and I will make sure my RAC membership is always up to date as I fear it is just a matter of time.

Regardless of what the Toyota fans say about these cars, I think they are lemons!

after wasting my money changing cars so often having owned them on average 12 months, in that time have joined relevant clubs according to make/model just to gauge common problems and should problems arise the possible fault finding and solutions come in handy before approaching dealers/garages to fix.

ive come to the conclusion that sometimes majority of enhusiasts, over analize and pick out problems that may seem to be there but in reality are within normal parameters of the car's characteristics. of course genuine problems do arise and can be frustrating when every possible solution has been tried but the problem remains.

i just wish people realise that with the best will in the world reputable makers make their cars 100% reliable based on reviews etc.. but in reality as life goes nothing is perfect hence the car warranty/recalls to fix. at the end of the day if you are totally unhappy with your current vehicle and can no longer live with the problems, change it ;)

ALIGNMENT FIXED!

After trawling the net and finding a potential fix to my pulling to the left problem I completely solved it myself without toyotas help. I actually find it a bit frightening that I was able to fix a problem that had outwitted toyota despite the fact I am not a technical person by any means.

It was shonky tyres! as in the tyres were mismatched and so caused a pulling to the left this was the exacerbated by the intense road camber of my area. The pull was so heavy it was causing at least 10 degrees of opposite lock to go straight. So following on from what I learned from "www.wheels-inmotion.com" (see my earlier post) I tried shifting some of the tyres around for a better match. after a sunday of moving tyres and testing I know have a car that drives smoother and straighter with non of the wierd steering quirks anymore. Complete fix!

Here was the thing, I had scoured forums on the net for the best part of 3 days I discovered this pulling issue was not just limited to versos. I found many other people with exactly the same problem across a wealth of manufacturers. So this is a knowledge and training issue.

Those coloured bands on new tyres have meaning and this meaning is not being conveyed to manufacturers or customers.

It is shocking however that a new car off the production line should have such a obvious error in the tyre fitting.

I hope this helps many of you I have been passing this information on to others with the same problem. It cant hurt to try its fairly free and easy to do!

Does it then follow that Honda's made in Swindon and Nissan's made in Sunderland will be of poorer quality than those made in Japan? Surely the whole point of the car being a Toyota is that the quality control is the same no matter where the car is put together?

I think the quality is an issue, the scored discs problem alone must have cost Toyota a fortune as well as the horror stories I have heard from the mmt gearbox.

The reason I bought a toyota was because of my Yaris, bought from new on 2002 and to the day I traded it not a thing went wrong with it ever.

I have owned other brands of car in the past and had all this sort of crap all the time, It becomes a time consuming pain to get all these things sorted. Its having to take days of work etc to try and sort stuff. You cannot fault the dealers there service is always excellent but I think they may have quality issues with certain models.

Toyota got me used to "perfection" with my yaris and now anything less wont do! :)

Apologies for not quoting in full.

It is difficult to quantify the number of problems without having all the figures from Toyota. As has been mentioned it is possible to have good and bad examples of any make/model of vehicle. Searching through this forum there are over 77,000 registered members it would take over 700 to complain about any one issue to even register a 1% dissatisfaction with Toyota.

Whilst I know that if you are the owner having the issues that is 100% of your ownership experience (believe me I have had cars where this is the case) it does not mean that a particular make/model is poorly made, just a particular vehicle.

Well I am coming up to the end of 3 years ownership and yes there has been a few rattles but I am happy with the car its been problem free (touch wood)!!

In fact I am looking to replace it again with another Verso !! I think on a forum you tend to hear when people have had problems and I am not saying all cars have been perfect but compared to other makes the Verso is one of the better ones

Are you going for the new shape Verso???

Also many are built to order to prevent storage. I know someone who has a new Yaris and had to wait months for it. Built in April delivered in May, can’t get any newer!

What if tyres have no coloured bands? The Dunlop Sport 01 has no coloured bands, maybe the better the tyre the better the drive?

no. i dont like the new shape to be honest. and i also prefer the interior of the outgoing model. i have plumped for an 08 SR in black.

Found the parking sensors ( front and rear)very useful you can get them fitted as an after fit if not fitted !!Hope you enjoy your new car

the front sensors have been fitted already. i took my time and found one that was first reg. in july 08, so it has all the extra little bits. im really looking forward to collecting it now. sad really, as the out going motor is an mr2 !!!! 2 seats to 7 seats, quite a jump really. :lol:

Apart from my alignment problem and scored discs mines has been really fine, I made a use of the back 2 seats and so long as they are used by kids they are fine, took 7 people to a restaurant! At least you know if you get the pulling issue its just ***** mismatched tyres and you can swap them round till they work and toyota will replace any scored discs no problem.

I got an 08 plate SR as well, it only had 2k miles on it and was less than 4 months old. I thought about the new one but It doesn't look sufficiently different to warrant the extra 5 grand it would have cost me to get a slightly different bonnet!

The parking sensors are excellent and the thing I really like about the car is that its big, practical and powerful yet doest look like overblown or ridiculous like some of the other cars I looked at. I also founf it highly maneuverable for a 7 seater and easily usable in a multi story car park.

My (Corolla) Verso was brought in July 2004, a couple of months after it was launched. I am really surprised about the below bar quality.

Major problems: MMt gearbox replaced, 6000 to 12000 miles. Steering rack replaced 9000 miles

Minor problems: Sun Visor not staying up-replaced 8000 miles. Plastic cover n/side interior door falling off,replaced 6000 miles. Seat belt clips coming off, 0 to present. Rattling sound inside dash 0 to present. Central stowage lid not flashed 0 to present. Leather coming off steering wheel replaced 30000 miles. Scored front discs replaced 15000 miles. Door and dash plastic very easily marked 0 to present.

Most work replaced under warranty-I had an extra year free as I complaint re: MMt gearbox. The rattling sound is still here. Having driven and owned VW, Honda, Hyundai, Daihatsu and Ford before, Toyota seems to be the same standard as VW and Ford. I think as they are producing too many cars, they have lost sight on quality control side of things.

The dealer where I brought my car from were really bad. Another nearby Toyota garage was better, though expensive.
