Hi Guys,

Just joined the forum.

Have owned my Rav for about 6 months now, all pretty standard really. 2.0 XT3.

All I've fitted is a rear step, tints and rubber mats.

Generally quite happy with the Rav, although the box seems a bit whiney for a 30k mile car.

Is this a common thing or should I be worried?

I have bought some additive to reduce friction, I intend to add this to the gear oil in the next few days, Anyone think this is a bad idea??

Here's some photos-

That's a beautiful machine! Of course I'm partial to silver myself. I really like that rear step, I don't think those are available in the States, at least not for my 4.3.

If the car has not had the gearbox oil changed at 20k as it should just do it now with good quality oil and avoid using additives. Everything is in there that needs to be in.

Oh and welcome to the club!

Thanks for the advice anchorman, I'll get round to this next week.

Being a recent 4x4 convert, I am unfamiliar with transfer boxes, diffs, etc.

Should I just be changing the gearbox oil or is it worth my while doing anything else while I'm down there?

The schedule calls for the all the transmission oil to be changed at either 2 years or 20k (so every other year). If you can't be sure it was done it would be prudent to do it but TBH don't expect it to cure the noise. I think that is probably normal but if there really is a noise then an additive would only hide it and not fix it (I doubt if it would even hide it).

You will become more familiar with the sounds and notchyness etc with time - don't worry!

Have a look at this link and there is some photos inside.
