I bought a second hand Carina E a few months ago and apart from a couple of minor issues it is a great car but I am worried that the sunroof seems very slow to slide back and it may be straining the motor and needs lubricating. I have tried putting lubricant on the components I can see from the roof opening but there is no noticable change. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

How slow is slow, in your case? I wouldn't say my sunroof opens fast, but not so slowly that it seems a problem.
