Iggy Needs Your Help

Walking out of work Wednesday evening I was horrified to see the man that lives directly opposite the police station throwing something that looked like a cat off his drive, I pulled up & it was the most skinny, half bald, ill looking cat you ever seen. He said he had seen the cat round for a while now & it did not look too good! It was eating a carrier bag that obviously had food in it once & could hardly stand. After telling bloke what I thought I made a box up, lifted what there was of him in it & rushed him to the local vets.

Basically Iggy is poorly & it is most probably a hyperthyroid which is easily treatable but can just as easily be fatal as without treatment they die of heart/renal failure. He has been aged at about 2-2 & a half years old & is the most loving animal. He has obviously been abandoned for some time now as his coat is so matted it is one giant lump that will need all taking off (what is left of it) when he is under anaesthetic. I have told the vets that if they test him & he has nothing dangerous to any of my animals then I will happily rehome him after he is treated as he is so ugly I am not sure anyone else would have him! BUT: believe it or not the vets do not have spare cash (yeah right) to deal with strays bought in so are looking to cat charities to assist with his blood tests and stuff. They are £60 each & he urgently needs two for the thyroid & feline leukemia/aids etc. Then they can start treating him (which again will cost). He has been in there nearly 4 days now & they are not doing anything until they can get the money, although surely it should be treatment first to anything sick then find the funds after.

I am asking if anyone can spare anything to please donate to Iggys Fund, even a pound from people will help. I am currently printing leaflets to deliver to all the houses & shops on my beat to see if I can get some assistance for the poor animal & also will be contacting local paper to shame the vets into some action & raise some money as he may need an op to remove thyroid & that will be hundreds. I am happy to pay for his lifetime treatment if I get to rehome him but do not have anywhere near enough to get these tests underway.

You can donate in two ways, first to paypal to

Jaine.cooke@ntlworld.com marking it IGGY FUND or if you wish to donate direct to the vets thier address is:

Walton Lodge Veterinary Clinic, The Bungalow, Brewery Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. EN11 8HF but please mark your envelope with IGGY FUND or JAINE so they know what it is for.

I would be so grateful if you can help & Iggy would says thanks!

Jaine

Yes my email address is

Jaine.cooke@ntlworld.com when you go into paypal. I am afraid I do not know how to link direct as never done this before & it is all a bit of a rush job as he needs treatment. However I have already had a payment just now so email is cool. I will update with monies recieved & his treatment etc.

Thank you so much

Have you tried this organisation:

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/

They can help with funding for vetinary care...................

I know of them as my late Aunt left them a considerable legacy when she died last year.

Give them a try

This is indeed a sad story Jaine but I am a little concerned that despite the obvious mistreatment of the cat, you have not contacted the RSPCA, despite knowing where and who was responsible.

There is also the fantastic organisation PDSA who will never turn away such a terrible case, they would have almost certainly taken the poor mite in and given it any necessary treatment without a charge to you.

I am sure you have the best intentions but requesting funds from people for something that has other options must be worth thinking about.

Thank you for suggestion but they only help if it is your cat & you are on benefits etc, already done all that, the vets will be contacting them and cat protection league but it all seems to be taking time & vets obviously have much more interest in animals with insurance if you get my drift. He is not my cat & I am just trying to help him have a better life than it has started as. he will need hundreds of pounds so anything helps & also need to get these tests done as he could die without prompt action, he only weighs about same as a bag of sugar as it is.

Hi Jaine,

We have an organisation called Blue Cross here in Ireland. I don't know if it exists in the UK, but they either charge very little or nothing as far as I know

Les, maybe I have not explained myself properly. The cat is a stray that was outside the nick & the pensioner opposite did not want it going thru his rubbish. it has no owner & has not for a while. I worked for a vets for 3 years so know how they work. I am not rushing into this at all & yes the PDSA & CPL will indeed help but not with all the money as the cat is at a vet & they expect the surgery to put some towards it as well as any fundraising that can be done seperately. There is NO charge to me I am merely kick starting it all off as I said before vets will deal with paid cases first then try raising money from cat charities who already have more than enough to deal with.

THERE IS NO ABUSE AS HE HAS NO OWNER. HE IS A STRAY & HAS BEEN FOR A WHILE.

I am not doing this for my own good or anyone elses I am merely raising funds as people do for charities etc.

The vets are fully aware what I am doing as a lot of local people assist with raising money for strays taken into places or they could not run these organisations in the first place.

Jaine, relax :P

I understand what you are doing  When I had my own business, I found an old dog hiding behind the door. I put him into my van & brought him down to the local Vet.The dog stood with his hind paws on the passenger seat & his front ones on the dash looking at the passing scenery. The Vet looked him over & said he was too old , diseased & mangy & the kindest thing was to put him down. I regret to this day that I went along with this. I can still remember the trusting look he gave me as his leg was being shaved for the injection. It was all over, instantly. I am not ashamed to say that I couldn't see the cheque book to write a cheque, my eyes were so full of tears. I think that the Vet thought that I was daft

No, but it could have been :( . Another night I looked over the counter & found an old Foxhound asleep in front of the counter. I said"No, I don't want to know" Then he woke & stepped off the carpet onto concrete & yelped. That did it. I got him food & water & left him in the place overnight. I found him asleep on some Customers Duvets the next morning { they never knew :lol2: ] He came over to me & kept nuzzling & making a fuss of me while I worked. The Girls came in for work & I went home for Breakfast. When I got back I was told that they had pushed "That smelly old thing out the door "

That was the one & only time I lost the head & shouted at them. To say they were shocked & stunned Is under an statement :censor:

Bizarra,

sorry but a couple of people did not read the post properly, basically

1. stray gets taken to vets for treatment

2. vets contact animal charities to help

3. animal charities ask public for help

4. I am doing cutting that part out to make it quicker to get him sorted.

Thank you so much to people already donated, he has first two tests paid for :) Thanks Toyota owners as well as other forums I am on.

How wonderful.
