Cam Belt Failure

Hi guys, I'm new here and unfortunately start off with some bad news.

I snapped my cam belt on my 3S-GE yesterday so I am looking for some advice.

Now I know there is controversy as to whether or not the 3S-GE is an interference or non interference engine, but I'll skip that part and point out that

A. I have really high lift cams

B. I have a stand alone ECU which has an adjustable RPM limit (which was at 7'500 RPM at the time the belt let go)

C. The ECU has a "soft cut" and "hard cut" limiter but at the time of my stupidity I was bouncing off the hard cut with flames and VERY loud bangs, but anyhoo that's just what happens.

Luckily I was just sitting with the car in neutral and not actually moving anywhere but all this brings me to my question.

Is there an uprated and strengthened aftermarket cam belt available anywhere for this engine? The cam belt had maybe less than 10'000 miles on it and it was just a replacement from Unipart and I am worried that the same thing will happen again; luckily I have access to another 3S-GE engine so I am not in tears so to speak.

The WHP is 212 at the moment but after all this the whole engine is coming out and the head will be getting skimmed ported and polished... then re-mapped (again).

Any advice, help or tuning tips would be much appreciated :)

P.S. I have some wheels for sale and would like to advertise them on here so if any admin could kindly grant me permissions to start a topic in the buy and sell section it would also be much appreciated (or at least tell me how to gain access to this function)

Thanks again.

Sad news, but I know of no uprated belt. But I'd always go for a Gen Toyota after having similar issues with the alt belts on my old MR2s.

You need to be a paid up member of the forum to post. PM one of the Admin and they'll sort you out.
