Stereo Replacement

I'm looking to replace the stereo in my Avensis, as it is faulty. I have found one, but I am unsure how it will work.

My current stereo is the factory fit cassette one, with a CD changer in the boot. However instead of using the CD changer I have my iPod interface connected to the CD changer port on the back of the stereo. To select my iPod, I would just press the CD button.

The problem I have is the replacement stereo that I am looking at is the factory fit CD one instead. If I pressed the CD button, would it just play the CD?

Or forgetting the Ipod for the second, if the CD changer was connected and there was a CD in the dash based one, which would play?

Does anyone else have a CD stereo AND a CD changer?
