Sat Nav "freezing"

This may just be coincidental but since the 40K service two weeks ago my sat nav freezes when it asks me if I want to detour if it detects hold ups on my chosen route. It won't let me answer nor does it clear the option when pressing the Map button on the steering wheel as it normally does. If I press any other function e.g. Info then that screen appears but I cannot then get the sat nav screen back. The only way to get sat nav then is to reboot the car i.e. power it off and on - just like a PC!

The dealer says they haven't made any changes and it must be finger trouble; I've had the car from new for 2.5 years and use the satnav a lot and can safely say it is not "operator error". On top of this the dealer has requested the car for 2 day to try and fix it!

Has anybody else seen this problem as the dealer tells me it's not a known problem nor has there been a code upgrade recently applied.

Thanks in anticipation for any replies forthcoming.

I've not come across many posts in the various Prius forums, so it's probably as the dealer says.not a common known fault.

The Repair Manual (unfortunately I've only seen what I think was the American version) often in the diagnosis referred to inspecting the DVD for scratches and cleaning the disc as you would any CD/DVD. So you could try inspecting and cleaning the DVD?

If you want to try your own fault fnding, a fair amount (assuming American and European are the same) seems to be using the onboard MFD, Online subscription to the Repair Manual, hopefully European edition, is available from

techdoc.toyota-europe.com

I've had no success navigating this web-site from linux and firefox - seems to be designed only for Micro$not IE .

Funny, mine did this yesterday after being left in a car park in the hot weather. I couldn't start the nav either and just put it down to the DVD drive being too hot - could this have also affected yours? Even after the car cooled down on the journey it still didn't start. Fine today though.

Not sure if its something to do with the unit under your front passenger seat or the DVD. Here is a thread that's been running on priuschat since January. Post #21 tells you to reset it.

Thanks to you all for your input; the dealer has been told by Toyota that it's "The Unit" which needs replacing at a cost of £2,500! A bit worrying that a minor failure can cost so much; thankfully the warranty on my car is still valid; phew :)
