Evening all,

My partner has an Aygo Black which is still under warranty. She has recently noticed a sort of whining noise coming from the top drivers side in the engine bay.

The noise increases with the revs even in neutral. The sound decreases when in a higher gear (less revs)

I have read other posts which mention exactly the same problem, but no one has posted a follow up after having it looked at by a garage.

I wonder if anyone has an idea of the cause of this noise, as I would like to know if it would be covered under the Warranty.

Many thanks in advance

I think people have suggested it may be the water pump?

Thanks for your reply.

The noise sound a bit like an electric car or milk float engine. Not sure if a water pump would make this type of noise but thanks for the suggestion.

It would be best to get it looked at by your dealer, just to make sure.

Just back from Jemca Croydon. Popped in on the off chance of speaking to a mechanic to see if he could identify the noise

He could, and the noise was the water pump.

The technician knew what the problem was without even opening the bonnet or turning the engine on ! clever lad.

He said that they have had a few Aygos in recently with a faulty water pump.

Our car is under 3 years old and only 9 k mileage , so all work was done under warranty then and there, no need to book it in they just replaced the pump immediately and cleaned the car as well.

Very impressive service.

You're lucky! The whining noise in my car comes from the direction of the passenger seat!! :P
