Sensitive Elbows

I am having a problem with the height of the arm rest section of the Yaris drivers side door panel. It is just that little too low and I have a sensitive elbow bone. And resting on the window level is equally uncomfortable. I am wondering if some sort of sticky backed foam pad exists that I could fix to the arm rest - thereby raising its level.

Or does someone have an idea of something that can be utilised to meet the purpose, perhaps something another car manufacturer offers. I have tried the mobility shops and main retailers all to no avail.

How much"Extra" height are you looking to get?

The first thing that springs to mind is some form of lightly elasticated padding that you could attach to your elbow.............(Something similar to a skateboarders elbow pad)

Big 'Thank you' for your interest. Ideally I need about 3 to 4 centimeters and I guess you might think I am being picky when I say I was hoping to find something I could fix to the car door rather than fix to me!!!

I shall certainly have a look in sports shops because if I fail to find a fixed solution your idea does offer hope for any long distance trip .. but what sort of additional height it might give is questionable.

In a perfect world I would like a nice, shiny leather faced foam pad about the size of a block of butter with an easy move adhesive backing. Got a feeling I ain't going to get it.

Thanks again Red Yaris 54.

How about something like a microfibre covered sponge............(About the size of a block of butter............Available in many different colours from Tesco and other stores for about £1)

This could possibly be attached to the door with Velcro.............Just another thought!

...Or a surgical elbow pad. Easy to use in any car!

Don’t rest your right arm on the door, you don’t rest your left!

Maybe it is only his right elbow bone that is sensitive and needs to be rested on the door

Can you come up with any PRACTICAL solutions Reece?............(Or are you just trying to boost your post count?) ;)

My point is why does 71 need to rest their elbow? If they keep their hands on the steering wheel in the correct position then it isn’t an issue?

If I wanted to increase my post count I would be doing what you do and posting in meaningless threads like the word association and 3 word story... ;)

And YOU dont rest your elbow? Ever?

My bet is that you do... I do and I realised why, many moons ago...

The left arm is less obstructed than the right, due to the proximity of the driver's door, so I find my arm leaning, banging, rubbing against the door, ergo, it becomes more comfy to use the door as an armrest.

By the way, why do you think manufacturers put a protruded section on most cars doors? It is an ARM REST!

As for the left, many cars fit a central armrest too or you can often buy one to fit. Once there is one there, it becomes more comfy to use, than to just hover above, because your arm just bangs or rubs against it!

I thank you! (Now I am just getting off my soap-box)

When my hands are on the steering wheel I can’t/don’t rest my elbows. If I’m driving with my left hand my right elbow sits nicely on the door ‘rest’.

71 doesn’t mention if he/she wants to rest their elbow with the hands on or off the wheel. I’m guessing 71 wants to rest the elbow whilst holding the wheel and that’s why it doesn’t reach.
