Manly Iq Colours, Iq Child Seats And More

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm preparing to buy an iQ2 as our family's second car, and I have a few questions for you experienced iQers please!

Best deals
- Are there any tips for securing a good deal? I'll have no scrappage, but would like to get as close to the What Car Target price as possible (a £300 saving on the iQ2). Should this be possible from my local dealer? I've also heard that prices are going up from 1st July - is this true?

Manly colours
- What would you recommend for a manly colour? As I'll be the main user of the car I'd like something that screams chest hair and medallions if possible. Black would be the obvious choice, although black tends to look dirty very quickly and I'm not particularly good at washing the car very often. White doesn't suit me (so my wife says) and she is against silver (but I think it might look good, although I haven't seen any photos of a silver iQ yet). How about red or the purple? I do quite like the purple from the photos, although I am not sure if it is a bit too girly? I'm not a fan of red, to be honest, but saving £370 for metallic paint might ease the blow!

Child seats
- Has anyone got a child seat in their iQ? Any recommendations for the best fit? And can you really fit a child seat behind a 6 foot driver?

Private registrations
- How easy is it to remove the number plates and fit my own? And would my dealer be able to save me the registration fee if I put my own registration directly onto the car? And would they possibly even have some new plates printed for me?

Service plan
- Has anyone taken out the service plan on your iQ? Does it work out cheaper than paying for services when they are needed (apart from avoiding any future price increases)?

Glove bag
- Is this big enough to be of any use? Do Toyota provide a blanking plate to cover the poppers if you don't buy the bag?

Just a couple of other things to add. Firstly, this forum has been a great source of information so many thanks to all of you for posting. Secondly, I just wanted to vent my frustration at the product knowledge of the Toyota sales adviser I've dealt with so far. He was very friendly and helpful, but it's so annoying when I know more about a product than the salesperson. I've spent a few hours doing some background reading on the Internet, while he has worked at Toyota for 5 years selling only a few different models of car - how hard is it to make yourself an expert?!

Thank you for any advice you can provide!

Wow what a lot of questions. i dont think you will get much of a discount my dealer would not budge got car mats and glove box thrown in.

I went for the black like the colour shines when polished.

Cant comment on child seats

Private number plates I believe have to be bought once the car is registered they are then kept for when the car is sold on, you get to keep your number plates replacing them with the ones when first registered.

Opted out of the service plan as a sevice is cheap anyway you only pay money into a pot why not put the money into a savings account each month.

Got a so called glove box so that doesnt apply to me.

As for product knowledge my dealer was spot on even knew how to take the tools out from under the rear seats and told us about putting the clutch in to start the car.

Hope this helps sure others will post replies too.

if you already have the reg on retention then they should be able to register the car with that.

they cartainly should be able to get you new plates made up with appropriate documentation that you own the reg etc. (so can lots of places though).

This is one of the questions I have too. I would guess a rear facing child seat in the front would render the back seat unusable?

Being a family man this year makes the Mini, Swift Sport or a Panda 100hp an attractive cheaper proposition for the wife. Lets not forget the IQ is just as wide as these mini like cars and certainly shares nothing in common with the Smart car other than length is similar. I drive the Auris (a tardis inside) and I would not want anything smaller as a main family car.

This is one of my issues too. I've decided to switch to Toyota for the reliability and customer service, but the Aygo seems more practical as a 2nd car for a small family even though I'm really mad keen to get an iQ!

I would recommend the black, being a big macho man myself....... ;)

The glove 'bag' is !Removed! useless. You'll have to use the little bit of space under the rear seat if you wan't to store anything, and that's just big enough for a tom-tom, the manual, and a box of matches.

Many thanks for all of your comments so far. Just to answer a couple of my own questions:

I've also heard that prices are going up from 1st July - is this true?

The iQs had a price rise yesterday - all models have increased by £120, making the base iQ model £9,615 (a rise of of 1.3%). Annoyingly the price of metallic paint has gone up a whopping 8% - from £370 to £400. This means that, unless you want the 'free' red paint, the price of a new iQ has just gone up £150 :( It could be worse though - Ford vehicles have gone up over 10% this year. Don't the car manufacturers realise that we're in a recession?

Glove bag...Do Toyota provide a blanking plate to cover the poppers if you don't buy the bag?

The showroom iQ I saw recently didn't have the Glove Bag - instead it had individual popper covers over each of the 4 poppers. It didn't look as rough and unfinished as I thought it might do.

There are popper covers supplied for blanking off the luggage cover poppers. I presume these can be used for the glove bag too.

The luggage cover is next to useless btw. :)

I thought I should return here and let you know that I've just ordered an iQ! Here are the conclusions I came to:

Best deals - Are there any tips for securing a good deal? I'll have no scrappage, but would like to get as close to the What Car Target price as possible (a £300 saving on the iQ2). Should this be possible from my local dealer? I've also heard that prices are going up from 1st July - is this true?

Prices did go up, so my iQ2 Manual with metallic paint retailed for £11,015 (compared with only £10,295 at launch!). I managed to negotiate £500 off the price and about £500 of bundled extras. I used the £700 savings available from Carfile and Auto eBid to convince my dealer that they really could come up with a better offer!

Manly colours - What would you recommend for a manly colour? ... White doesn't suit me (so my wife says) and she is against silver (but I think it might look good, although I haven't seen any photos of a silver iQ yet).

We saw a silver iQ in the showroom and my wife changed her mind, so we went for the silver.

Child seats - Has anyone got a child seat in their iQ? Any recommendations for the best fit? And can you really fit a child seat behind a 6 foot driver?

The Toyota Duo Plus ISOFIX car seat was one of the 'free' extras in the deal.

Private registrations - How easy is it to remove the number plates and fit my own? And would my dealer be able to save me the registration fee if I put my own registration directly onto the car? And would they possibly even have some new plates printed for me?

I've given my private plate paperwork to the dealer and they are (hopefully) going to have all the registration and plates sorted out when I collect the car. No additional costs incurred because they'd have to print plates anyway, and I paid the plate transfer fee in advance to the DVLA.

Service plan - Has anyone taken out the service plan on your iQ? Does it work out cheaper than paying for services when they are needed (apart from avoiding any future price increases)?

The dealer didn't have prices for the iQ service plan, but gave me an estimate based on the Aygo. The calculation worked out more expensive than paying for the separate services, so I'm still unsure if the numbers were correct. I have my first service included, so I'll probably check out the service plans again after 12 months.

Glove bag - Is this big enough to be of any use? Do Toyota provide a blanking plate to cover the poppers if you don't buy the bag?

I've got a glove bag coming with the car, so I'll find out myself if it is of any use!

Our new iQ2 is due in early September so not long to wait now!

Hmm our dealer has said he cant put my private reg on the new IQ2 I am getting. He says we have to wait till we get the reg papers and then he will deal with the conversion??????? - so at JAE it will be a 59reg plate and not my own sweet number!!!!!!!!!! :(

That sounds like your dealer is not capable of doing his job!

Personalised plates should be transferrable between cars ...........especially as he has a few weeks notice of your requirements.

I would be inclined to tell him that if he is not prepared to transfer your personalised plate, the deal is OFF..................That just might concentrate his mind ;) :)
